Love perseveres

"Ma'am, Please stand in the line. The power is off."

"Is there a possibility for the visiting hours?"

"Yes, we hope so. We are waiting for the generator repair guy. It will take another 40 minutes." He was so loud. "Sir, Ma'am, we request you wait another 40 minutes to 1 hour in the waiting room." The crowd was not pleased. I am standing here in the line to register for the visiting hours. My fiance is inside this prison. We got engaged three months ago. I stood in the line for 5 minutes and entered the waiting room. Everyone stared at me. I don't look like someone waiting for an inmate. I looked like a police officer. One lady gave me some space after I stood there for some minutes. Of course, nobody wants to sit next to someone looking like a police officer inside a prison. I have been overthinking a lot for the past couple of months. 

"Hello," I made a small talk. I wanted to break the awkwardness. 

"Hey"

"I am here to see my fiance."

"I am here to see my brother. He is in a life sentence."

"I am sorry."

"Never mind. Why is your fiance inside?"

"He stabbed a guy."

"That is bad. You could hire a lawyer."

"We are finding one. Soon, we will be able to find one."

"So, why are you here?"

"I am here to see him. He is my fiance."

"I know, but he is, I guess, an inmate. How many years are you looking?"

"About 4 to 5 years."

"You are planning to marry him when he comes out. Isn't that right?"

"Yes."

"That is a mistake. He is going to stay inside for another 5 years. You will be missing out on a lot of things for someone who can't control his emotions. It is a waste of time."

"Most of them don't even bother to ask about the situation. He stabbed a guy who tried to molest a woman. That woman recently died. We are trying to make bail."

"Okay. Let us see. He stabbed a guy. He is in prison. He might be a good person but you have to try at least to bail him out. Else, he is going to end up nowhere in this life. Forever, this prison record is going to hurt his life. Hurt you and your future children."

"I am sorry. But your judgment is completely wrong. I am capable of taking care of us. I will do it happily."

"Okay. Hope you are happy when he makes bail."

"Yes." 

I was turning to the other side. I didn't want to talk to that woman. I had all these doubts as soon as I heard the case. It is heart breaking. I loved that man. He did the right thing and now we don't have a witness to move this case. I am afraid of this society. Yes, as he comes out, he wouldn't be able to do a normal job that he was qualified for. I felt sad. My bag fell down. She picked it up. She saw my dull face.

"I am sorry if I have hurt you."

"Okay."

"Well, I was very rude with my honesty. I understand it now. You know, my brother, he is on a life sentence for murder. A very prominent person. He wouldn't make it in life. I am here to give him some new clothes and some books. To me, I don't accept his flaw, I think it is the right punishment. I am still sitting here."

"So?"

"You loved the man. You are waiting here to give him hope. Ready to wait for another five years. Defending his situation to me. I think, if he didn't do any mistakes, he would be out in no time. I will pray for you. I really admire your love and faith in him."

The security called us in. I saw my fiance come out to meet me with hope and faith. I felt a sense of hope as well. Love can persevere.
