Love and Long Distance

"Call me"

"I am sorry. I am in a meeting right now. I will call you when I reach home."

"Sure."

After one hour, I couldn't handle the situation. I have been on the waiting side of this relationship for the longest time. I lose patience. He is working all the time. I see he is putting in his maximum effort to improve his career. I am supportive of him, at least I think I am supportive. I can't be ignored all the time. He has been busy over the whole week. I prepared myself to confront him.

"Hey, are you back yet?"

....

"I want to talk to you. You should give me some attention."

....

"I am becoming tired of initiating the conversation."

....

"It is about 10 p.m. now. Are you still at work? What is happening?"

....

"You know what, forget it."

A small notification sound popped up. It was him. I started crying. He replied to me after 10 minutes. It felt long.

"Sorry. I was stuck in traffic. I had a long day. Can I talk to you later? Maybe tomorrow. I read your messages but I am not going to answer any of them now. I will talk to you over call."

"Okay. I am sorry I am annoying you all the time."

"You are not annoying. I will explain later."

"Okay."

I was not convinced. I am nearly 5000 km distant from him. We can't take flights anytime we think. Maybe I am jobless and waiting for attention when he works for his future. I am nitpicking his whole week. It is very sad and pathetic when I look at it from my side. On the other hand, our personalities are different.

"Hey"

"Hey"

"What are you doing?"

"I am watching... Nothing"

"Tell me"

"I feel like a very jobless person when I tell you that I am relaxing."

"You don't have a job but you have a life. You are relaxing because you feel like it."

"You are right. Am I nagging you all the time?"

"Do you want me to be honest or comforting?"

"At this point, I choose honest because comforting is very temporary. I would want to make up my mind on the reality of this situation."

"You are right. You have a lot of love and attention. I am running to build something. My passion and aim are something I want to work for when I am in my 20s. I have a lot of resources and opportunities here."

"I know but I am not a priority anywhere."

"You know that you are my priority. I understand that you need attention but I want you to be a little understanding of my situation."

"Who works 24x7? You are always at work or pursuing your hobby. You don't have any interest in talking to me?"

"I do. I am very helpless as well. I have a lot of responsibilities unlike you. Your maximum responsibility is to take care of yourself. I am not built for that yet. I have to accomplish certain things before I can concentrate on you."

"Why do I have to wait?"

"Isn't that how people try to understand each other?"

"Why can't you take care of me?"

"I tried. You keep complaining about how I could do better every day so I told you that you should be taking care of yourself and be happy with yourself first."

"But I am not happy anywhere except here."

"Then you should be moving places and figuring out something for yourself."

"Aren't you a TEDx speaker?"

....

"What am I supposed to do now?"

"This is not an argument. Just sit and think about this conversation. Also, I will give you all the attention when I am done with work. I promise."

This is just another conversation in our long distant days. I can't blame him. I can't blame myself too. I am just too ignorant and he is right. The days are just longer in this long-distance relationship.
