"I lost my wife."
"Sir, do you know where you saw her?"
"I left her at home 2 hours before. The flood just took our house away. My children are with me. My wife was at home. I can't find her now."
"Sir, you can't come with us. We are rescuing a lot of people here. Stay where you are. Stay with your children."
"She must be afraid. I want to see her."
"Sir, your children are alive. You have to stay here. We will check for your wife."
"I don't know. I want to come with you."
"Marge, Hold them here. I will be back."
"She wore a blue dress. She is around 34 years old. Latina."
"Okay, sir"
12 people have already been taken away by the flood in my neighborhood. After a heavy flood for 2 days, today, the rescue team managed to help us. Our street was safe for the first three days. Today, I went to bring some food for my house and the nearby river broke down into our locality. Nobody expected this. My wife was alone at the house. I went out with my children because they were sick. I went to see if we have any medicine distributed in the area.
"We have a body over here"
"Where?"
"Over here"
I couldn't hear anything after the word "body". The love of my life can never leave me. She was the light of our lives. I left my children with a few rescuers and went near the team to see if that was my wife. My hands were already shivering. I couldn't utter any words. My eyes became blurry. I love that woman with all my heart. How can god let us in this state? How can someone ask me to identify a body to check if she is my wife? Too many thoughts running through my head. My children will never recover from this loss. I have to find my wife alive. I definitely have to find her somewhere. I went near the body and heard someone tell my name. My name never felt so divine at that moment. Before I could even turn around, my eyes started watering down.
"Seashell"
That is not my name. My wife calls me that. That is my name from this day forward.
"Seashell. I am over here."
She jumped and came towards me. She was struggling between those rocks and mud. I can't let that tender feet walk over to me. I ran towards her held her leg and cried down. My children rushed towards us.
"I thought I lost you."
We didn't talk after that. She hugged our children.
"Mom, we were scared. We thought you died."
"No, honey, I won't die. I am here. See. Your mom is here."
"But mom we didn't want to miss you."
"I know baby. I know"
I was admiring her conversation. It has been told as a story for years and years in literature and movies. It felt like a new birth to me. I admired her every part. Her speech, her eyes, and her toes. She felt very different. I thanked god and saw her as a new human being. The few minutes before I went near the team, that was a past. She was reborn in my mind. I wonder if I get to spend the rest of my life acknowledging her importance more than I already did since our marriage. I stood there watching her talk to our children. The world seemed new. There was light everywhere.
Love and Light in my one person is alive.
