"This is the last time I am asking you this. Who is responsible for this?"
"Uhmm..."
"Alright, nobody answers. I will find it out by myself."
"But how?"
"That is actually none of your business."
"You have to tell us so we can help."
"I am not dumb. You will let me tell you my process and fix your mistakes before I reach the thief."
"But, Joy, don't punish us all."
"Yes, Joy, Don't punish us all."
"You can all shout and yell at me. I am not going to leave this as it is. Someone has to accept their mistake. I kept a 20-dollar bill right here on the table. I was going to use it to pay some repairman by this evening. Someone stole it. I want answers."
"We are back to square one."
"No, we are not. I already have my suspicions."
"Come on. Tell us. Who do you think did this?"
I am an elder sister to three little brothers. We lost our parents last COVID Variant came out. Since that time, I have been taking care of my brothers. My parents were the best parents we could ask for. All four of us, are a product of their love. They loved each other so much. I am just 19, but we are prepared to take care of each other. I gave them the pep talk. We stick with each other till we all can enjoy independent lives someday.
I am standing here in the middle of the hallway, screaming my lungs out, because I lost a 20 Dollar bill. Nobody here opened their mouth. I bet someone did it. This is not a sitcom where my bill flew somewhere and I was just dumb all the way. I kept a weight on the table as well.
"Come forward and just accept it. I am practically raising you all right now. If I am raising three little liars then I won't be able to feel content all my life."
"Guilting us into accepting something is not going to work. So, what can we do?"
"You can't have your pocket money anymore."
"That's brutal. We didn't do something huge. It is our home after all."
"So, you are saying that someone did it."
"No, we are saying that even if some one did that, we won't be doing it elsewhere. We are practically afraid of large people"
"You mean, adults?"
"Yes."
"You can't have your pocket money, anymore"
"It is fine."
"Yes, it is fine."
"Cool"
"Carry on."
They are very suspicious. They know that I won't punish them at all. I would have happily given them the money if they asked for it. Maybe they did it for the thrill. Later that day, as I sat there on the balcony, my three little brothers were laughing loudly on the street. They are a menace to this society but I see that one of them did it and the other two knew about it or they didn't steal it at all. They were protecting each other.
Or Maybe they did steal it and split the money. I don't know. I love their little protection. Imperfection.
