"I can't believe you did that"
"Yes, You have to believe me, Ari."
"Why would I believe you? You could be bluffing"
"I am not bluffing. I practiced for 20 hours this week for the game."
"What would happen to your legs if you practiced that much?"
"I don't know. I feel pretty good."
"I hope you don't flunk this comp"
"I won't. Trust me. That is the last thing I want to do"
"All the best. Seeing you swim is the best thing."
"Don't talk like you are not going to compete against me right now"
"I am going to compete against you. But I love that we are always together."
All the anticipated eyes are waiting for the swimming competition. Ari and I are best friends. We love each other so much. We have been friends since we were in kindergarten. Today, we are going to compete against each other. Every single time, we participate in different games. We cheer each other. Today, we planned to compete against each other and one of us had to win. I am so determined. I want to see her win but I want to win too. Too much dilemma. I entered the place.
My family is the best set of people one could ever ask for. I love that they both bring my siblings to all my competitions.
"Ari, best of luck"
"Thank you. You too"
"Today, we will see the swimming champ 2024 win the preliminary competition and enter their semi-finals. We are thrilled to announce that the competition will be for just 4 laps. Pair up with your team and we are going to start."
"Ari, are you alright?"
"No, I just don't feel like participating today"
"Why?"
"You see the arena. Everyone is there. Your parents. Our teammate's parents. Even our coach's daughters are there. My parents are not here yet."
"My parents will cheer for both of us, Ari"
"I know. But it doesn't feel right."
My mom came down to the arena to see us right before the competition. She saw Ari and asked me about it. I told her the truth. She took Ari aside.
"Hey, You are the little brave Ari I knew. I have held this hand right here for more than a decade now. I am very sure that it is strong and it can win that gold medal today."
"My parents are not here."
"Your mom told me that she has some important documents in her office. She will be here very soon. She told me to take care of you. I love you, Ari. Am I not like your mom?"
"You are my worst best friend." She smirked.
"Uhh. Is that sarcasm?"
"Yes. I love you too."
"Now, go there and beat my daughter. All the best."
"Everyone out there is going to cheer for you. You have won a lot of competitions. There are fans for you, you know that right?"
"Is it?"
"I saw two people holding placards for you"
"What did the placard say?"
"It said Ari is our hero"
"Are you kidding me?"
"Of course I am. Nobody is holding a placard. It is not 2014. But do you know what is 2024? There is a family of 4 people waiting for 2 competitors and 2 more people at the office waiting for you to win this game. Are you ready to come out now?"
"Yes."
"Go"
"Are those 4 people from your family?"
"Yes, why?"
"Ugh."
Ari is funny. She went outside. She came running to me and said that she had fans. She also mocked me for being a second place all the time. I laughed at her. She just heard the whistle and swam like a hungry dolphin. She won the competition. I was more than happy for her because Love, in any form, is energy. That energy made me happy too.
