"Sleep"
"Aren't you tired?"
"We just have one bed, sleep. We can take turns."
"Wake me up when you want to sleep."
"Sure"
"Are you sure you are not tired?"
"I am not tired."
"You look basically exhausted."
"Not really. I will have food while you are sleeping. Is that alright?"
"Sure, sure. Have good food. I will be happy"
"Sleep."
"Can you sit by my side after that?"
"Sure, I am right here."
"Thank you"
She got sick while we were on vacation. We didn't book any hotel. We got out of the airport and booked a small room. Only one room was available. With one small bed. A capsule hotel setting. I made her sleep and wandered around the lobby.
"Sir, do you have a credit card?"
"Sure"
"You can eat for free here when you book a room. But you booked this room so last minute and it is almost midnight. We don't have any food left. Can you manage to order it outside? We will offer a complimentary breakfast in the morning."
"Oh, that is bad. Is there any convenience store nearby?"
"We do. One is around 500 meters away. You can walk there. It is safe outside."
"I can't leave my wife alone. Can you help me with it?"
"Give me a minute. I will call the assistant."
It took around 30 minutes. I heard someone walking down the stairs. My wife was all hot and sick. She came down in search of me.
"Oh, why did you wake up?"
"It has been more than half an hour. I was afraid after you left. I couldn't sleep. What happened?"
"There is literally no food left in here. I asked for help. One of the assistants went out to get food. You can go back. I will come there soon."
"Okay."
I walked up the stairs and she was sitting there.
"We can eat together."
"Okay"
"Why are you afraid?"
"I am just worried about you. You have that meeting tomorrow. I just fell sick and you could have easily gone back to our place soon if not for me."
"What are you talking about? You are sick. How can I leave you alone? I want to be here. Your health is important and a priority."
"But you have been talking about this meeting for more than a month. It was very important. I screwed up."
"No, you didn't. You tried a new medicine for cough in a different country with a new weather condition. What can we do?"
"I could have avoided that if I didn't drench in that rain."
"True. But it was such fun. I loved that we did it."
"You are so strong."
"Yes, my immune is strong."
"Thank you."
"Why?"
"I don't know"
"You are my wife. These are my responsibilities."
"Thank you again."
"You're welcome."
"Why are you always so kind to me?"
"I have seen your screwed-up nervous system a lot of times while we were dating. I just wanted to give you so much peace and care. You know what I mean."
"Yeah, I used to fight a lot. I got defensive with everything. It was very devastating. I almost ruined our relationship plenty of times."
"Even I did too. I should have known better. I always thought we both were irritating each other for some reason. We didn't make any efforts to add empathy here."
"Probably. Now we are better."
"Way better"
"Good times"
"The best times"
"Yes. Thanks for the vacation. I loved this vacation so much."
"Me too. Except for that zoo. I didn't like the environment."
"Yeah, I know. I am sorry I took an animal lover to a zoo and added that proudly to my itinerary. I thought it was some conservation park."
"It is not a big problem. We enjoyed the whole trip. We could take another one in about six months."
"I will be more healthy by that time. Hopefully."
She leaned on me. I held her up and she was burning. I opened the doors and let some fresh air in. Got her some more soup and heated it. A warm blanket and some kindness was the star of the evening for her.
