116. A Jeans Story

"Mamma, aap jeans kyun nahi pehenti (why don't you wear jeans)?" Chiku asked Khushi in a serious disappointed tone. All his friends' mothers regularly wore Jeans and tops while his mamma and his Payal maasi were always in salwar suits or sarees. Not that they did not look pretty but he sometimes felt his mamma would look "cool" if she also dressed up like Rucha's mom.

Khushi halted in her search for an appropriate outfit for that evening. It was the weekend after Chiku's 8th birthday. They had thrown a grand party for his birthday on that same day in his favorite fast-food restaurant, where all his friends were invited. Arnav had left no stone unturned to make the day more special for his son by inviting two of his favorite league cricket players (the key players were out of country, on the world cup tournament). And Kavish had enjoyed the day to the fullest. Arnav and khushi became happy seeing sheer happiness on their firstborn's face, realizing that this was one of the last few birthdays when he would let them control how to celebrate it. He was growing up and had started having a say in the things he wanted, having firm opinions and choices. They felt proud of him of course, but also started missing having to "baby" him. Thankfully, they still had their daughters to do so for some more time.

But today, the family of five had decided to dine out to once again celebrate chiku's birthday and to celebrate India's victory in the T20 world cup!

That was why Khushi was getting ready and while trying to choose her dress, her son had asked her why didn't wear jeans!

Aru and Pari who were sitting on the bed doing their own things, looked at each other, silently speaking in their exclusive twin-language. They both had never wondered what their mamma wore. She always looked prettiest! Pari especially liked to play with her maa's dupatta whenever she wore one and sleep covering her face with it which held the best scent she ever smelled, better than the roses in her dada's garden! Aru on the other hand, loved when her mamma wore sarees, when she could touch her soft, smooth tummy! Both the girls sharing this fascination with their father! Only difference being, Arnav liked to hold khushi's dupatta or caress Khushi's milky expanse of her navel to stir romance, while his one daughter sought her mother's warmth in the clothes she wore and the other held fondness for her belly as it was an erstwhile home!

Khushi looked at a couple of jeans neatly folded at the bottom of her almirah. She had worn it the first time when she was trying to make up for ruining arnav's movie date plan. Quite foolishly, she took their entire family along, much to his disappointment! She then went to his office with the intention of making him happy wearing these western outfits. It was not exactly her comfort zone but for him, she could do anything. And it was worth it, as the way he kissed her in his office to show how much he loved her gesture! The next time she wore a jeans was on their Europe tour around their 2nd marriage anniversary, and she had packed a few western outfits even though arnav assured her she could wear anything she felt comfortable (and added that there would few occasions for her to go out anyway!). She still wanted to do it as she wanted to dress according to the place they were visiting and also felt more comfortable by then. With her husband by her side, she didn't really feel unsure about herself carrying anything! The last time she wore jeans was during their Kerala holiday when Chiku was around 2, and twins were not even there. She had felt a little conscious that time as her body had changed after her son's birth, but she still wore it. However, in the last 4-5 years, she never thought of wearing jeans again. She was sure they wouldn't fit her anymore with her slightly expanded waistline after her daughters' birth. She could of course buy a new one, but the thought never came to her mind.
