There were some special guests at the Raizada mansion that evening. Chiku had recently made a new friend, a boy in his class named Ojas, and the two of them had quickly become close. Ojas's parents, Shalini and Varun Mehra, had recently relocated to Delhi from Germany, after spending many years there. They were in the process of settling into life in India. Their younger daughter, Ojhal, had also been admitted to the same school, into Aru's class, so Shalini often reached out to Khushi to understand the school curriculum for both of her children.
A couple of days ago, Shalini had upfront asked Khushi if she and her husband could visit their home, so they could ask any questions they had about everything while the kids also got the chance to bond. And khushi happily accepted to be the host.
And when the Mehra family arrived at Shantivan, everyone gathered in the hall to join the conversation. Ojas's grandparents, who had come along, started chatting with Nani, Mami, and Mamaji, while Ojas, Chiku, and Piya ran to the porch to play. Pari and Teddy were in their own world but still stayed nearby, which left Aru, Palash, and Ojhal amongst the bunch of elders. Ojhal, a shy little girl in her grandmother's lap looked at Arohi curiously. She really wanted to play with Aru, but Aru was busy frowning at these new set of people in their house, leaving poor Ojhal intimidated. What she didn't know was Aru, just like Arnav, would take a long time warming up to new people. However, in the months to come, Ojhal was going to be Aru's closest friend, something that would remain even as they grew up.
Anyway, Aru wasn't the only one brooding, her dad was doing the same. He had only come to sit here at Khushi's insistence, but his expression was no less than that of an oppressed servant! Well, in a way, he was a servant, to his wife's beauty!
Meanwhile, Shalini's mother-in-law was looking at Khushi and Arnav curiously, finally asked, unable to curb her curiosity, "Puttarji, aap dono ki shaadi kaise hui thi (how did you two get married)?"
Hearing that Khushi got startled, while arnav almost blurted his favorite, 'what the-'. However Nani's eyes twinkled with laughter as she looked at her eldest grandson whose love and marriage had given them countless stories to tell!
Seeing no one else was able to give an easy answer, Mami ji took on the task, "Hamare dono bitwa ki love marriagewa hui hai, jo humein zabardasti arranged kareki padi. (Both of our sons had love marriage that we had to forcefully make arranged)." She said, summarizing quite-eventful love stories of both Aakash and arnav in just 2 lines!
"But we ourselves couldn't have found better matches for them. Both of our bahuriyas (daughters-in-law) are gems. They have kept our house glued together." Mama ji added to better, positive emphasis.
Mrs. Mehra, Ojas's grandmother, smiled, and nodded, "I could very well see that. I had somewhere guessed akash and payal's marriage would be love marriage, but khushi is so different than arnav, so talkative, easy-going and mere khyal se umar mein bhi kafi choti hai aap ke arnav puttar se (I think even younger in age than your arnav). So, I thought-"
That was when Ojas's dad, varun decided to intervene, feeling awkward at his mother's intrusive remarks, "Mummyji ki baat ka bura mat maniye ha (please don't feel bad by mummyji's words). She is quite frank."
"Koi baat nahi (It's ok), bitwa." Nani ji said warmly.
Khushi decided to excuse herself at that point to check on snacks preparation and got up, not noticing how Arnav kept looking at her retreating figure until she disappeared inside the kitchen.
