AUTHOR'S NOTE-
Hey dear readers, hope you're all doing great! Sorry for the late update. I thought I'd update earlier, but I got caught up with some work. My bad!
As an apology, here's a long chapter for you—7000 words :)
Please comment on how you liked it, or if there's anything specific you're expecting from me, let me know. I'm open to suggestions!
In this chapter, I've added lyrics from a song. If you can, play the song in the background while you read to really feel the scene where I've included the lyrics. Or, if you're not comfortable with the lyrics and music, you can read without it. Enjoy!
Cyrus's POV~
I saw the car door open, and then there was a knock on Daphne's side, startling her.
Fuck! No, please...
Then there was a knock on my side too, and hesitantly, I rolled down my window.
"Hey, Butterfly..." I glanced up and saw someone I definitely wasn't expecting—Zephyr. It was like a scene straight out of a horror movie. His cat-like eyes were deeply staring at Daphne.
Without looking at me, his hand slid inside and clicked the locks to open all the car doors. He walked around to Daphne's side and opened the door. Daphne looked at him with fear, trembling as she quickly grabbed my arm.
Zephyr softly yet quickly removed Daphne's hand from my arm and knelt on the road to face her at eye level. He gently turned Daphne, who was still seated, towards him.
"Why did you run like this, sweetheart?" he asked softly, caressing her cheek.
Seeing Daphne so uncomfortable made me clench my teeth. I wanted to jump in, but I knew I couldn't—it was their personal stuff and Zephyr had already warned me.
"You have no idea how scared I was. I couldn't stop thinking about what might happen to you. You're my everything and the thought of losing you... I don't know what I'd do without you," he spoke with concern.
Daphne's mouth quivered, in response she just sobbed softly.
"Shh, stop crying. I'm here now," he said, taking her hand and gently pulling her out.
"I extend my sincere thanks to you, Cyrus, for bringing my wife back. You don't know what a big favor you've done for me. Would you like something in return?" he said, tossing my coat off Daphne and letting it drop on the seat.
"No...thank you, Mr. Reynolds," I spoke hesitantly while thinking of ways to stop him from taking Daphne away.
"I-I don't want to go b-back," Daphne choked on her words while whispering to him which was clearly audible to me too.
That's it, I can't bear to see her tears any longer. It breaks my heart to see her like this.
"Mr. Reynolds, Daphne is hurt. I was thinking of taking her to the hospital—" I started, but Zephyr cut me off smoothly.
"Is she hurt? Well, I'll have my men call a doctor to our place. No need for the hospital. And thanks again, Cyrus. I don't usually appreciate when others handle tasks for me, but tonight, you really impressed me by bringing my love back. It's already midnight, so you should head home. I'll make sure you get a new tux."
"Boys, escort Mr. Brown home and make sure he's safe," Zephyr instructed his men, and they nodded immediately.
I wanted to help Daphne and tried to find another way to intervene.
