We've Only Just Begun

Part 19 - "Official"

*ABBEY'S POV*

My heart was pounding and my face was starting to hurt from smiling so much. Finally. I thought. Even though I had only known him for a week I felt like it had been forever. And he asked me so perfectly, I could go back on the ferris wheel a hundred times and not be scared.

We got off of the wheel and started walking back to where we left Jay and Stephanie. Nathan grabbed my hand and I looked up at him, he was smiling too which made me smile even harder. 

We found Jay and Steph at one of the carnival games where Steph was trying to throw rings around glass bottles. 

"I want that giraffe you better win!" Jay said to her. I started laughing at the irony of the situation, the girl trying to win the guy a stuffed animal on a carnival date. Totally opposite of the cliche and I loved it. Nathan and I stood there watching until she finished tossing her rings. On her last try she made one, making Jay jump up and down like a little third grader. The carnival worker handed Jay the giraffe and Jay bent down to kiss Steph. "Thank you baby." He said to her with a pleased smile. 

They turned to see us standing there holding hands and beaming from ear to ear. "Oi did you two have a shag at the top of the ferris wheel or something?" Jay asked. Stephanie elbowed him in the stomach. 

"We're uh... officially together." I smiled. Stephanie smiled so big but wasn't as excited as I thought she was going to be. I gave her a confused look and then realized that she was behind it all. I remembered her conversation in the bathroom about where Nathan and I were going. I shook my head at her and smiled. "You knew the whole time didn't you?" 

"Guilty." She replied.

"That was all me, babe. I went to her for advice and she's been helping me plan all of this out ever since." Nathan chimed in. I squeezed his hand.

"Well thanks." I told Stephanie, still smiling.

"What're best friends for?" She replied with a wink.

I turned to Nathan and gave him a quick kiss, just because. "So what else do y'all want to do?" I asked.

"Are you afraid of rollercoasters?" Nathan asked me.

"No I fucking love them." I replied. He looked confused. "As long as the ride is moving I'm fine going up high." I explained. He nodded.

"Then let's go ride some rides." He said.

The rest of the night was so much fun. We rode rides, played games, and ate bad-for-you carnival food. We left at about 7 PM because we were all dead tired from having to stay up late and take care of Seev and then wake up to go to the studio.

"I can hear my bed calling my name." I said as we piled into the car. I sat down next to Nathan and rested my head on his shoulder. When we got home the rest of the group was watching tv downstairs but I headed straight upstairs to take a shower. 

*NATHAN'S POV*

I watched Abbey as she walked up the stairs and waited for her bedroom door to shut.

"Nath has some good news." Jay said with a smile as he sat down on the arm of the couch. Max muted the tv and everyone turned to look at me. 

"Abbey and I are official." I said with a smile.

"WAYHEYYY!" Seev said. Tom patted me on the shoulder.

"Congrats, mate." Max said. 

"You've been waiting a while for this right?" Siva asked. 

"If you can count a week as a while, yes. It feels like I've known her my whole life." I replied. 

"She's good for you, mate." Max said. 

"I know. I've never felt like this about anyone before." I said. Everyone smiled back at me. 

I walked to the kitchen and put the kettle on. I was so exhausted, as I'm sure everyone else was. I made my tea and went upstairs to find Abbey laying down on her stomach on top of the covers wearing her pajamas with the towel still on her head. I stood in the doorway leaning on the frame. "Hello girlfriend." I said to her with a smirk. She looked up and smiled at me.

"I can definitely get used to hearing that." She said.

"You will." I replied as I walked over to the bed and layed down with her. "I should probably call me mum. She'll be wanting to know I have a girlfriend." 

"Does she know about me at all?" She asked.

"Oh yeah. I talk about you to her all the time." I replied. "She's been pushing me to ask you out for the last couple days. She'll be glad to know I went through with it." I said. She smiled.

"The only person that knows at home is my sister. When I'm talking to a guy I usually don't tell my parents right away because they-- well, my mom mainly, won't quit asking me questions and it gets quite annoying." She said. I nodded. "I'll have to call them tomorrow and catch them up. I'm too tired to do anything right now." 

"Well I'm going to go shower." I said. I gave her a kiss on the forehead and then left the room.

*ABBEY'S POV*

I got up and walked downstairs where everyone was still watching tv. I squeezed into the little spot between Maria and Siva. 

"Heard you've got a boyfriend now." Siva said playfully.

"Yessss, Seev." I replied.

"We're all really happy for ya darlin'." He said smiling.

"Thank you." I replied. "How are you feeling?" 

"Fine. Whatever the doctors gave me for the pain really did a number on me. I don't even remember leaving the hospital." He said. 

I laughed. "I know how those feel. I think I slept for the entire day after I had my second kidney stone. It was great." 

"Yeah I woke up at about 2:30 to Max's sister ringing the doorbell over and over again. I didn't even look to see who it was, I just opened the door and walked back to my room. Sorry about that, by the way." He said.

"Oh don't worry about it. Everything got straightened out." I said. 

Nathan came back down then. Maria scooted over on the couch to make room for him to sit down by me. He put his arm around me and I curled up at his side, resting my head on his chest. He kissed my hair and we watched tv with everyone. 

I knew that something was going to come along soon enough and ruin all of the goodness that was happening in my life, but I didn't care one bit at that moment. Everything was perfect.
