"And that smile, mate, it's like the best thing ever, you know?" I mention to Johnny as we settle at our spot.

Johnny chuckles, "Mate, you've said that a fair few times now, even brought it up on Wednesday and a bunch of times today." He takes a seat.

I slide into the chair next to him, placing my bag on the floor. "Yeah, erm..." I trail off, unsure of what to add.

Patrick and Hughie approach our table, trailed by Lizzie, Katie, and Claire. I patiently wait, hoping to see the familiar blonde walk in through those double doors as the chatter continues.

After half an hour, the bell signals the start of the first lesson.

"Maybe she's under the weather?" Johnny suggests, pulling me back from my thoughts.

"Yeah, maybe..." I reply, a frown creasing my brow, feeling a bit uneasy.

"Alright, off to good old English first," Johnny says as we both rise from our seats.

"Gibsie! Wake up!" Aurora exclaims, snapping her fingers in front of my face.

"Oops, sorry," I respond, lifting my head from the desk.

She chuckles before settling into the seat beside me, taking out her book and pen.

"I adore history, it's like one of my favourite lessons," she says, smiling as she places her bag on the floor.

And suddenly, history become my favourite lesson.

"What took you so long?" I ask.

"I erm..." she hesitates, then adds, "Had stuff to sort before school." Her grin stays put. I meet her gaze, noticing something off.

"Have you been crying?" I ask.

"No.. no, why'd ya think that?" She quickly faces forward as Mr Michaels enters.

"Your eyes look a bit red... you sure you're-" I start, but she cuts me off.

"I'm alright, just leave it, yeah?" she whispers as Mr Michaels calls for quiet.

Aurora's like a rocket as soon as class is done, bolting off somewhere. I try to keep up, but she's vanished by the time I hit the door. Something's wrong for sure.

"Shite." I mutter to myself.
