I sit on my bed, applying a touch of makeup to my face, attempting to conceal the fresh bruise on my neck courtesy of my dad.Shan's recent math test failure seemed to point the blame my way, a weight on my shoulders.

"I'm sorry Rory." Shan says, sighing, putting on her school shirt.

"It's fine Shan, we all fail at things, it happens." I smile, trying to uplift her spirits as I put the makeup back into my bag.

She sits in front of me as I pull her hair a ponytail.

"I can't help it.. I'm just not good at maths." She sighs, voicing her struggle with the subject.

"I'll try and help you when we're home if I'm not busy." I reassure her with a smile, offering my support as she expresses her gratitude.

I get my bag and the rest of my things and make my way downstairs.

"Right, school time." I say, picking up Sean to take to his nanny Murphy's as the boys grab their hurling gear, ready for the day ahead.

I drop Sean off first, receiving a quick goodbye from Tadhg and a warm hug from Ollie as I leave them at their school. Joey takes Shan to school as I wait at the bus stop, waiting for the arrival of the late bus.

I make it just in time for first period, I sit next to Gibsie as we wait for Mr Michaels to come in.

"Happy Birthday." I smile, pulling my book from my bag.

"Thanks." He exclaims, smiling at me as I pull two big bars of dairy milk from my bag along with a card.

"I got you something, it's not much but.."

"No you didn't.. I love dairy milk! And the big bars, God we should just get married now." He says chuckling as I place my bag onto the floor.

He opens the chocolate bar, splitting it in half for us both to share.

"Thanks Princess." He smiles warmly, enjoying the sweet treat.

"So.. what's birthday boy got planned then?"

"Ah y'know.. just going over to Kav's manor, probably drinking." He chuckles, hinting at his birthday plans.

"Don't be getting too drunk, we've still two days till the weekend." I laugh as Mr Michaels comes in.

"You should come over, you and Aiden if you'd like." He whispers as he opens his book.

"I don't know.. I don't wanna intrude, plus Declan's back from Scotland today." I hesitate.

"He can come too, just text me 'Kay?" He smiles.
_______________

"Finally." She drags out, slurring her words as she sits up from the sofa.

I put my bag onto the kitchen table and open the fridge, hoping to find something to eat after a long day.

"You couldn't even be bothered to go out and get food." I sigh, shaking my head while closing the fridge door.

"I haven't been paid yet, you know how he is."

"Mam..what you really mean is you've spent it all on drink."

"Yeah.. but-" she starts to say as I interject.

"I'm going out."

"No you're not, you've cleaning to do."

"What? Cleaning your mess what you made? I've not been here for a week." I sigh.

"I pay the rent, I pay for your school, It's not hard to help your own mother!" She shouts before storming out the house.

"Fuck my life." I mutter before walking into my room. I plop myself down onto my bed before ringing Aiden.

"Hey Angel."

"Hey.. it's Gibsie's birthday and he wants to know if we wanna go over to Johnnys to celebrate?"

"Ah sure, d'you want me to meet you there or come get you? I'm already with Declan."

"Well I still need to get ready so whatever."

"Right then, give me ten and we'll be there." He says before hanging up.
