October 2nd, 2011.

It's been ten years since I lost my baby boy, and the pain still feels as raw as it did that first day. Time passed, and life moved forward, but the hole he left never healed. Today, we were at his grave again, just like we always are on his anniversary. This time, though, it felt bittersweet. The weather was unseasonably warm for October, as if even the sun was trying to offer us a bit of comfort.

We sat in a gentle circle around his resting place, Gerard, baby Bethany nestled in my lap, and the familiar splash of marigolds brightening his stone. We always bring marigolds. There's something about their resilience, blooming every year in vivid shades, that reminds me of him. His spirit feels just as strong and alive as those flowers, a small but bold mark in this world.

Aiden and Declan had joined us, too. They came with Oscar, their newly adopted son, a chubby-cheeked little boy who seemed to light up the place with his laughter. I watched them as they settled on the grass beside us. Aiden and Declan have become this perfect little family.Their bond and the joy they've found with Oscar warms my heart in ways I can't explain. Watching the two of them parent, seeing Oscar giggle and reach out for them, reminds me of everything I wanted for my own little one.

We spread out a blanket and shared a quiet picnic, something simple, yet filled with memories. We sat, laughed, and told stories, with baby Bethany grabbing at the grass while Oscar played nearby, his curious eyes occasionally wandering to the marigolds we'd brought. The gentle hum of family surrounded us, a moment of warmth and remembrance.

Ten years have passed, yet each visit feels like the first.
