I was unable to fall asleep. Eventually, I decided to head over to Joey and Aofie's. Aofie was restless too, and little Aj had kept her up most of the night. That kid was adorable, but he could scream like nobody's business. One moment, he was flashing that gummy little smile that melted my heart, and the next, he was wailing at the top of his lungs, leaving us all feeling a little frazzled.
After a couple of hours of bouncing between playing with Aj and trying to soothe him, I finally returned to my room. I kept myself busy with random tasks, but my thoughts kept drifting back to Gibsie. I missed him, and it felt like the perfect time to go see him.
"Joker," I called out as I strolled into his room, finding him propped up on his bed, a look of surprise crossing his face. His eyes scanned me from head to toe, taking in the sight of me in his jersey and my pajama shorts.
"Jesus Christ," he muttered, clearly a little taken aback as I flopped down beside him, the mattress sinking slightly under my weight.
"I made you something," I said, grinning as I reached behind my back to pull out the CD I'd decorated just for him. "Pick a hand."
He squinted at me, suspicious. "Right."
I handed him the CD, and he examined it, a smile creeping onto his lips. I'd decorated the case with an assortment of colorful gems, and the CD itself read, "Aurora + Gibsie's Songs." It was a bit cliché, but I didn't care; it felt right.
"Aurora," he said softly, almost reverently.
"It's got twelve songs on it," I said, my excitement bubbling over as I listed them off:
- Dangerously In Love - Beyoncé - Iris - Goo Goo Dolls - This Love - Maroon 5 - Yellow - Coldplay - Kiss Me - Sixpence None the Richer - Whatta Man - Salt-N-Pepa - The Boy Is Mine - Monica - Genie in a Bottle - Christina Aguilera - Crazy in Love - Beyoncé - Chicago - Michael Jackson - Lovefool - The Cardigans - Pony - Ginuwime
"They're not just lovey-dovey songs. They're songs we've danced to and laughed to—"
Before I could finish, his lips were already on mine. The kiss was unexpected but electrifying, and it sent a jolt of warmth through me.
"Gerard Gibson," I breathed when we finally broke apart, my heart racing.
He smirked, clearly pleased with himself. "Aurora Lockheart," he shot back, playfully putting a hand over my mouth to silence me, his eyes sparkling with mischief.
"My germs," I snickered, and without thinking, I licked his palm, relishing in the moment.
"Oh, it's like that, is it?" he laughed, playfully wrestling me onto my back.
"Yep," I giggled, my laughter mingling with the electricity in the air.
