Over the past few days, Aurora and I had spent every afternoon together after school. Whether we were lounging on the grass, sharing snacks we'd picked up from the shop, or playing GTA at my place, our time together felt effortless. Today was no different. We were both in the car, heading back to mine after I'd casually asked if she wanted to hang out again. As usual, she hesitated before agreeing, but I could tell she was starting to enjoy these routines as much as I did.

The car windows were rolled down, letting in the warm breeze as "Say My Name" blasted through the speakers. Aurora sang along, her voice carefree and loud. I glanced over at her and couldn't help but smile—this was the happiest I'd ever seen her. She looked... free, like nothing could weigh her down.

"I'm sweatin' my tits off, Jesus. I'm so hot!" she exclaimed, leaning back against the seat, trying to catch some relief.

True statement that.

"Well, you're gonna be. It's hot as chuff today, and you're singing like you're on a pissin' stage." I teased, glancing at her.

"It hasn't been this hot in ages," she replied, wiping her forehead with her sleeve. She was right—spring had finally decided to make an appearance.

I smirked as I pulled into the driveway. Has she seen herself? I thought, amused at how her messy hair and flushed cheeks looked nothing like the girl I'd seen fifteen minutes prior.

"I know," I agreed as I cut the engine.

Aurora chuckled as she unbuckled her seatbelt. "Wonder if Brian's missed me."

"Oh, Brian? Really," I said, my tone dripping with sarcasm.

She shot me a playful look. "You can't miss me if I'm with you every waking hour," she replied, rolling her eyes as she got out of the car.

"Touché," I mumbled, following her inside the house.

As soon as we walked through the door, Brian, was sitting on the stairs, before lazily standing up.

"Brian! My favorite lad ever," Aurora exclaimed, rushing over to scoop him up.

I pretended to be offended, gasping as I placed a hand dramatically over my heart. "Ouch. Offended."

"Brian doesn't yap 24/7. You've got competition," she teased, scratching behind his ears.

"I can do that!"

"Do it right now then," she challenged with a smirk.

And so, I did. I gave her the silent treatment... for all of eight seconds.

"Jesus, this is too hard," I sighed, kicking off my shoes at the door.

Aurora burst into laughter. "You lasted a solid eight seconds—new record, that, Joker."

"Oh, shut up," I muttered, heading upstairs with Aurora trailing close behind.

"Make me," she mumbled under her breath, so quietly I almost didn't catch it.
