"Gibs, for the last time, stop bleeding spooning me!" was the first thing I heard my best friend say on Wednesday morning, swiftly followed by the sharp jab of his heel into my shin.
"Okay, ow," I groaned, blinking groggily as pain shot up my leg. "That fucking hurt, Cap. You know I bruise like a peach."
"It was supposed to," Johnny grumbled, shaking off my arm before sitting up, his back to me. "Since when have I ever given you the impression that I'm the little spoon in this relationship?"
I rolled my eyes and sat up, too, rubbing the spot on my shin. "And I am?"
"Well, it isn't bleeding me!" he shot back, clearly not in the mood.
I huffed and flopped onto my back, staring up at the ceiling. "I can't help it, okay? I'm used to cuddling Aurora at night."
Johnny snorted, tossing his pillow at me before grabbing a fresh one from behind him. "And I'm used to cuddling Shannon. Not my flanker."
I chuckled and adjusted the pillow beneath my head. "Yeah, well, those Lynches are like breeding vessels. If you think about it, this impromptu sleepover might've just saved your ass from joining Lynchy on his early fatherhood trip."
Johnny shot me a sharp look, eyes narrowing. "Did you just call my girlfriend a breeding vessel?" His eyebrow lifted, and then he added, "And did you forget your girlfriend's related to those same Lynches?"
"Shh, don't be cranky," I teased, turning onto my side and hugging the pillow he tried to maim me with. "You said you and Shan want a bunch of kids when you're older, so think of it as a compliment."
He rolled his eyes dramatically. "I never know what to think when it comes to the shite that comes out of your mouth, Gibs. Honestly."
"That's your problem, Johnny," I replied with a lazy yawn. "You do too much thinking."
"And you don't think at all."
"Exactly. I like my way better."
Johnny leaned back against the headboard, stretching his arms over his head. "So, care to explain the late-night visit? Because, lad, you've done some strange things in your time, but creeping into my bed in the middle of the night is a new one."
"Yeah, sorry about that," I said, grinning sheepishly. "Probably should've given you the heads-up first, huh?"
He scoffed. "Would've been nice, yeah."
I chuckled. "Would it sound strange if I told you I get nightmares and you make me feel safe?"
Johnny smirked, mildly amused. "Only a little. So, what's the craic?"
"Nothing much."
He gave me a look, tilting his head. "Don't give me that shite. Did you and Rory have a fight or something? She's usually your first port of call."
