My plans to avoid Gibsie went straight out the window earlier when he hugged me. I couldn't do it, I just couldn't. He'd been following me around all day like some bleedin' puppy.
I've been sat on this brick wall for the past forty minutes since the bus is late, I can't get ahold of anyone since I've no credit. I used my free text on Joey which he hasn't seen yet.
"What're you still doing here?" Gibsie says walking over, his face and rugby kit covered in mud.
"Waiting for the bus, it's late." I sigh as he sits down, we sit in silence for a few moments before he speaks up.
"Are you sure you're okay?" he says looking at me.
"Yeah..yeah why wouldn't I be?" My response comes out almost automatically, hiding the storm of emotions swirling inside me.
The truth is, at this minute I was, being around Gibsie makes me feel... alive? Even though I've just come back, this is the best I've felt, and I hated that. I couldn't get close to people because everyone leaves at some point... right?
"You just seem... different," he sighed.
"I'm always okay," I gave him a small smile just before he continued talking.
"Bullshit. I can't hold it in anymore, Aurora. You've changed. I know you, Aurora. You're not okay... you're not you."
"Y'hardly know me, Gibsie," I scoffed, turning my head away.
"Fine! If I don't know you why do I know that your favourite colours white because you like snow which is why you love winter and Christmas, you're obsessed with history, your favourite movies ten things I hate about you, you love marigolds and-" he pauses and lets out a sigh.
"I know you've only just come back, but let me in. Don't push me away, Aurora. It's only me and you, princess," he whispered, pulling my chin to make me face him again.
Shite.
I tried talking, but all that came out was air. My heart hammered in my chest, echoing the chaos in my mind. The weight of unspoken words hung heavy between us.
"I know you don't have to tell me anything, just... don't push me away." His voice softened, a plea laced with vulnerability.
