"D'you want me to come with you, or should I stay here?" I asked, turning off the car.
"You can come, don't know how long I'll be though," she replied, unbuckling her seatbelt and stepping out of the car. I quickly followed, closing the door behind me as we made our way up the driveway.
She opened the door, calling out a quick hello into the house, but no one responded. The place was quiet, almost too quiet, like we had stepped into our own little world. We headed upstairs to her room, and I sat down on her bed as she began pulling out a few essentials. Her movements were quick but graceful as she packed deodorant, perfume, and of course, her signature lip gloss into a sleek black backpack. She added a few clothes before rifling through her school bag to grab a couple of things.
She zipped up her bag and turned to me with a teasing smile. "Right, I'm gonna change out of my school clothes, and then we're good to go."
"Okay," I muttered, covering my eyes dramatically with my hand.
I heard her chuckle softly as she started rummaging through her wardrobe. "What a gentleman," she teased. The sound of fabric rustling filled the room, and the temptation to peek almost got the better of me. "I'm done now," she announced, amusement still lacing her voice.
I dropped my hand, my eyes widening as I took her in. She had swapped her school uniform for a pair of denim flared trousers that hugged her curves perfectly, and a crisp white shirt, casually unbuttoned at the top, hinting at the skin beneath. She looked effortlessly sexy, the soft glow from her light casted a warm hue over her as she flicked her hair back.
"Right—are we ready?" she asked, a knowing smirk playing on her lips as she caught me staring.
I cleared my throat, trying to play it cool. "Yeah, c'mon princess, your carriage awaits," I replied, standing up and giving her a playful bow.
She laughed, that sound that sent a jolt of warmth through me, and we made our way downstairs. As we opened the door, we were greeted by the sight of torrential rain, the sky opening up as if someone had pulled the plug on the clouds.
"Jesus Christ," I muttered, staring at the downpour.
"Right, on three... we run," she said, eyes bright with mischief.
"Three... two... one!" She shut the door behind us, and hand in hand, we bolted through the rain, laughing as the cold water soaked through our clothes. By the time we reached the car, we were drenched, but neither of us cared. I quickly opened the passenger door, and she tossed her bag inside before darting back out into the rain.
I was about to get in when I realized she wasn't next to me. Turning around, I saw her standing in the middle of the road, arms outstretched, her face tilted up toward the sky as the rain poured down on her.
"What're you doing?" I called out, grinning despite myself.
"Having fun, obviously!" she shouted back, kicking up water with her shoes, her laughter echoing.
