Rosabelle sat in a rocking chair, gently rocking back and forth as her fingers threaded through Draco's hair. Draco, seated on the floor with his head resting against Rosabelle's lap, was slowly drifting off to sleep.
Draco had been severely sleep-deprived, which caused his potion to almost explode in class, earning him a punishment from Severus. Harry even mentioned to Rosabelle that Draco's insults had become rather lame. He could tell something was bothering Draco.
Draco confided that Lucius had been teaching him spells... to harm others, something he despised. Despite his general disdain for most people (excluding his mother and Rosabelle), he would never intentionally hurt anyone.
This made Rosabelle frown. What did Lucius have planned for Draco? If he intended to make Draco follow in his footsteps, Rosabelle would deal with Lucius personally. Using his own child for personal gain was utterly twisted.
Rosabelle was determined to send Lucius a gift later this week.
Draco was sleeping soundly; he hadn't had a good night's sleep alone in his dorm or at home, especially with Lucius around. Lucius seemed rather rushed for some reason, and it was taking a toll on Draco. It appeared that Draco often had nightmares. When Rosabelle asked about it, he merely shook his head, reluctant to share the details. All he admitted was that he had been dreaming of something terrible. What he didn't reveal was that the horrifying nightmare involved death, and just the thought of it sent a shiver down his spine.
Several hours passed, and Rosabelle herself drifted off to sleep, lulled by the gentle rhythm of Draco's light snores.
Now that she was in her third trimester, it was becoming increasingly difficult for Rosabelle to complete even the simplest tasks. This left Severus taking care of everything for her, a responsibility he seemed... happy to do so.
When Severus was busy, Rosabelle could be seen strolling around Hogwarts, sometimes accompanied by Hermione, Draco, or even Harry. But Rosabelle was most often seen with McGonagall, who always seemed to have advice to share. The older woman kept snacks on hand just for Rosabelle, knowing how much she loved to eat now that she was eating for two. Everyone couldn't help but gush about how adorable she looked as she waddled through the hallways.
When she awoke, she felt a heavy blanket draped over her and glanced down to find Draco snugly wrapped in a separate blanket. She smiled softly, glancing around and spotting Severus nearby, deeply engrossed in grading students' assignments.
Severus, his brow furrowed in concentration, rested one hand on the side of his head and held a parchment in the other. The silver ring on his finger caught the light, and he even had his glasses on, which he rarely wore.
Rosabelle observed Severus as he read through the essay, unable to suppress a roll of his eyes and a weary sigh. She could tell that the poor quality of the writing would lead to more assignments for his students, and she couldn't help but chuckle softly. Severus had a tendency to wear his feelings on his sleeve, making it difficult for him to mask his emotions.
Hearing her laughter, Severus lifted his head and couldn't help but break into a soft smile at the sight of his wife.
Rosabelle grinned and placed a finger to her lips, signaling Severus to keep quiet as Draco was still asleep on her lap.
Severus' smile faded into a sigh as he nodded. The urge to hug his wife was strong, a needed comfort after grading the absolute trash essays, but it seemed that moment would have to wait.
He massaged the bridge of his nose and continued scanning the pile of essays. Out of the hundreds he graded, only a few were decent—those belonging to Neville, Hermione, and Draco.
Rosabelle, noticing her husband's stress, gently woke Draco.
The boy groggily stirred, wincing as he stretched and cracked his neck, sore from his sleeping position.
"It's almost time for dinner, Draco," Rosabelle whispered.
Draco yawned, nodded, and offered Rosabelle a sleepy smile before slowly making his way out.
Once Draco had closed the door behind him, Rosabelle stood and walked over to Severus, wrapping her arms around his neck from behind.
Severus immediately felt his tension melt away. He grasped her arms, pulling her around to sit on his lap, wrapping his arms tightly around her as he buried his face in her neck. Oh, how he needed this.
Rosabelle glanced around Severus' desk and noticed his neat handwriting on a piece of parchment. She narrowed her eyes to see better, and her eyes widened in surprise.
The note listed ways to make a pregnant mother happy, with numerous points detailed. There were even small notes of improvement beside the main points. McGonagall's and Rosabelle's mother's names appeared on several items, indicating that they had been the ones advising Severus. The note ended with a reminder of her current favorite food: 'More pickles for wife.'
Rosabelle's lips quivered. Pregnancy had made her particularly emotional, and she was overwhelmed by how much Severus did for her. How could one man be so incredibly devoted? She felt incredibly fortunate to have him as her husband. Pulling him closer, she gently threaded her fingers through his hair.
She prayed for peace, wishing that everything could remain as calm as it was at that moment. However, she knew something terrible was looming, especially after hearing bits of what Draco had said about Lucius. She hoped Voldemort wouldn't come after Severus or their baby. If he dared to, she and Severus would face him head-on, refusing to back down without a fight.
