The Fat Lady's portrait had been viciously slashed, with great strips of canvas hanging from the frame. Just then, Dumbledore, Rosabelle, and Severus appeared.

Dumbledore instructed, "Mr. Filch, round up the ghosts. Tell them to search every painting in the castle for the Fat Lady."

Suddenly, there was a scream. The students rushed to the landing, where all the paintings whispered fearfully. Severus stood tall, not moving, as he tightly grasped Rosabelle's hand.

Filch's eyes scanned the upper shadows, then narrowed.

"There'll be no need for ghosts, Professor..." Filch announced, extending a crooked finger. High up, near the ceiling, the Fat Lady cowered in a portrait not her own, trembling.

Dumbledore asked, "Dear Lady, who did this to you?"

The Fat Lady trembled as she answered, "Eyes like the devil he's got. And a soul as dark as his name. It was him, Headmaster. The one they talk about. He's here. Somewhere in the castle. Sirius Black."

Severus frowned, tightening his hold on Rosabelle's hand, prompting her to gently pat him on the back. As the students reacted, Dumbledore's voice cut through.

"Secure the castle, Mr. Filch. The rest of you... to the Great Hall."

As the students began to move, Rosabelle prepared to follow when Severus stopped her.

"Sev?"

"Please, stay with me. Don't wander around," Severus urged, his gaze intense.

Rosabelle was about to protest, but she once saw the concern in Severus' eyes and immediately pushed away the thought. She gently stroked his cheek and smiled, "Alright."

Severus leaned into her touch, releasing a sigh. "I apologize. I don't mean to be overprotective."

Rosabelle shook her head, her thumb tracing his cheekbone. "No, I understand."

Dumbledore smiled softly, observing the couple. "Good. I would suggest the same thing. Both of you should stick together for now."

Dumbledore knew that Sirius Black was here for Harry Potter... and perhaps Rosabelle.

In the Great Hall, amidst an expanse of sleeping bags, Harry lay awake, his gaze fixed on the constellation of stars shimmering beyond the highest window.

A subtle creak resonated, causing Harry's eyes to shift as Severus and Rosabelle entered through the grand doors, joining Dumbledore.

Severus reported, "We have checked the dungeons, Headmaster. No sign of Black. Nor anywhere else in the castle."

Dumbledore nodded, "I didn't really expect him to linger."

Severus continued, "Remarkable feat, don't you think? To enter Hogwarts castle on one's own, completely undetected..."

He went on, "You may recall, prior to the start of term, I did express my concerns when you appointed Professor..."

Severus halted when Rosabelle interjected, "Sev, we talked about this before."

Severus had voiced his concerns about Remus joining Hogwarts as a teacher, but Rosabelle had provided numerous reasons why the man wouldn't be associated with Sirius Black. They had engaged in this conversation multiple times, eventually leading Severus to reluctantly let go of the subject.

Dumbledore sighed, agreeing with the woman, "I do not believe a single professor inside this castle would have helped Sirius Black enter it, Severus."

As Severus' eyes glinted darkly, Dumbledore gazed out over the slumbering students.

Dumbledore said, "No... I feel quite confident the castle is safe. And I'm more than willing to let the students return to their Houses. But tomorrow. For now, let them sleep..."

As Dumbledore's gaze found Harry, he shut his eyes and feigned sleep. Rosabelle noticed this and smiled softly.

Dumbledore looked back at the couple and said, "Get some rest, both of you. We're going to have a lot of things to do tomorrow."

Severus sighed before he eventually went back to his chamber, hand in hand with Rosabelle, who was waving at Harry, secretly waving back at her.

Severus held Rosabelle tightly in his arms as they lay in bed, the room shrouded in darkness, with only a flickering candle illuminating the space.

Silently, Rosabelle continued to listen to the steady rhythm of Severus' heartbeat, her fingers tracing gentle patterns on his chest. In the quiet intimacy of the moment, she planted soft kisses on his shoulder, offering a soothing touch.

"I understand your fears. You don't need to worry. I'm not going anywhere. I promise," Rosabelle whispered tenderly.

Feeling her warmth and hearing her reassuring words, Severus gradually felt the tension release from his shoulders. He returned her affection with a loving kiss on her forehead.

"I know. I love you, Belle. More than words can express," Severus replied, his anxiety giving way to a sense of comfort and security in the embrace of the woman he cherished.

Back then, Severus Snape was as cold as they come. He was like a grumpy rock, never showing any affection or emotion. He just wasn't into people.

But now? Well, he still wasn't exactly Mr. Sunshine with others, except when it came to his wife. Once he knew what love was, he wasn't about to let her slip away. He was head over heels for her - her touch, her smile, her voice... the whole package.

And he wasn't going to let Sirius Black ruin this for him.
