Severus gazed at Rosabelle, who sat alone by the fireplace, her eyes lacking their usual sparkle, her trembling lips showing her distress. She clutched her legs to her chest, lost in her thoughts.

Approaching her, Severus gently draped a blanket over her shoulders, his fingers kneading her tense muscles as he did so. He settled beside her on the couch, placing a steaming cup of tea on the coffee table before her.

His arm enveloped her, drawing her close as he heard the soft sounds of her sniffling. Rosabelle leaned in, resting her head on his shoulder.

Severus pressed a loving kiss to her head and began to rub her arm soothingly, trying to provide her comfort in her moment of vulnerability.

"I... I promised her I'd protect her, Sev. And I failed," Rosabelle whispered, her voice trembling as tears streamed down her cheeks. Severus could feel his heart shatter into pieces, witnessing the anguish his wife was going through. Rosabelle's big heart often led her to shed tears for others.

"Belle, it's not your fault that Granger was petrified," Severus reassured her, his voice filled with tenderness.

He wanted to say more, to point out Hermione Granger's recklessness for venturing alone despite repeated warnings, implying that her predicament was partially her own doing. But he decided to remain silent, aware of how deeply Rosabelle cherished the Muggle-born.

"I could have done more, Sev," Rosabelle replied.

Severus sighed softly, allowing his wife to cry on his chest. He knew how attached she was to The Golden Trio, especially Hermione. The fact that Hermione had been petrified deeply affected her.

"We will find the culprit behind this, but for now, you need to rest. You have a fever, Belle," Severus gently caressed Rosabelle's warm cheek, showing she indeed had a fever with her flushed and heated cheeks as evidence.

Severus' soothing and gentle touch caused her eyelids to droop as she gradually drifted into slumber.

He hummed a familiar melody, one that Rosabelle would often sing to him whenever he struggled to sleep due to haunting nightmares. Severus had been haunted by his painful past in his dreams, but ever since marrying Rosabelle, those nightmares had become infrequent.

But whenever he did have a nightmare, Rosabelle was always there, offering him comfort. Her mere presence had a calming effect on him.

Now, it was his turn to provide the same comfort to his wife.

With Rosabelle's eyes finally closed, Severus carefully placed her in bed, taking great care not to disturb her.

Running his fingers through his hair, he let out a frustrated huff. "Idiot child," he muttered, laying blame on Hermione for causing Rosabelle's tears.

Before slipping into the night, Severus pressed a gentle kiss to his wife's cheek. Determined to uncover the truth behind the ongoing tragedies, he left in search of answers.
