A/N I started writing this like 2 months ago right after I went to the beach and the waves were huge
Travis and Taylor had rented out a private beach for the two of them. No security, no lifeguards, just them.
They were having the time of their lives, floating in the sea and sunbathing on the beach. Just then, Travis noticed a couple of paddle boards near the beach hut. He got to his feet, brushing himself off as Taylor squinted up at him.
"Where are you going?" She mumbled.
"Just to check something out, I'll be back in a sec" came Travis's reply. Taylor laid her head back down on her arms as Travis set off.He reached the boards and picked one up, examining it. It seemed in good condition, already blown up and the paddles were right there. He grabbed another and the paddles and took them back to where Taylor was lying, dumping them on the sand.
"Paddle boards?" Taylor exclaimed excitedly, sitting up. She loved paddle boarding, and the ocean was especially calm that day.
"Yeah! Should we have a go?" The pair had been paddle boarding once before, however as much as they both loved it they both weren't the best at it. The water looked perfectly calm for them to practice. Taylor nodded, jumping to her feet. They both strapped the straps around their ankles then picked up the boards and paddles, walking towards the sea. They waded out until they were deep enough then got onto the boards, kneeling in the middle.
They paddled around for a bit, making sure to stay near eachother. They soon decided to stand up and Taylor the first to fall off, resulting in Travis's laughter making him fall too.
After paddling for about half an hour Travis started to notice how the waves were getting slightly bigger. He looked up into the sky to see some dark gray clouds, not too far away.
"Hey Taylor? I think we should head back" Travis called out, looking towards his girlfriend.
"Um, Travis?" Taylor was pointing towards the shore, and as Travis followed her finger his heart dropped. They were far out to sea. They could still see the reached beach, but there was no way they were getting back easily. They had to try though. They could get back. Couldn't they?
The waves were starting to get rougher as the pair both sat down on their boards, trying to keep their balance even.
"Lets go!" Travis shouted over the wind as the pair both started paddling towards shore. However, Travis was much stronger than Taylor and so he realised she was quite far ahead when he looked back to check. He stopped paddling, trying to keep his board steady as Taylor fought to catch up.
"Taylor, come onto my board!" He yelled over the wind. Travis's board was bigger and if they were on the same board they would be able to stick together, and have more power. But before Taylor could answer a massive wave came along, smacking her off her board and making Travis almost fall too. Taylor resurfaced, coughing and fighting against the waves. Travis reached out and she swam towards him, taking his hands. He pulled her into his board, grabbing onto her so neither of them fell off.
"You okay?" He asked, as Taylor coughed up more water.
"Yeah, what should I do with my board?" She asked.
"Just let it go" Travis told her as she kneeled infront of him, un strapping it from around her ankle.
"Shit my paddle" she swore, watching as the orange stick floated further and further into the distance.
"Don't worry" Travis tells her, starting to paddle again.Taylor gripped onto the elastic at the front of the board as Travis kneeled, paddling. However the currents were too strong and the waves too large, and they just kept being pushed further and further out to sea. Travis was starting to get tired, and Taylor noticed this.
"Hey, let me have a go!" She shouted over the storm. Travis was about to reply when a particularly large wave broke over the board, flipping it and sending the pair toppling off.
