CHAPTER 54: Turning Point

(Zoe's POV)

"Don't make this any harder Tristan. Stop complicating things. Just let me go."

I said firmly. I just want this done. Pagod na ako. Gustuhin ko mang manatili sa tabi niya, hindi na pwede dahil may bata ng involved.

He stared at me disapprovingly. "Bakit ba parang napakadali sa'yo na bitawan ako? Ganun ba kababaw ang pagmamahal mo sa akin?"

"This isn't easy for me Tristan! It's breaking me apart! How dare you say my love for you is shallow?! In the first place Tristan, you're the one who cheated on me! I'm just doing this for the best!"

"Is that the best you're talking about? Throwing away everything we've build for years?!"

"Ikaw ang nagtapon Tristan, hindi ako. At oo, yun ang alam kong makakabuti sa lahat! You broke my trust and I don't think I could still trust you again."

Napahilamos siya sa kanyang mukha. "It was just a one night mistake."

"Yes, one night... one night that ruined everything we have."

He stared at me, rather speechless. He looked at me like he couldn't believe what I had just said. Kahit ako nga hindi ako makapaniwala na nagagawa ko to ngayon. Kung saan ko hinuhugot ang lakas ko para bumitaw.

"Wala na ba talaga? Mahal kita eh, wag namang ganito." He pleaded. "How did you un-love me that easily?"

"Hindi mo ba talaga maintindihan Tristan? Mahal kita, sobra pa sa sobra. But we can't be together. You have to take responsibility of Erinn."

"I don't have any responsibility with her!"

I closed my eyes as I inhaled deeply. "My God, Tristan! Grow up some spine and man up!" I said, yelling at him.

"Are you trying to say that I have to marry Erinn just because it happened that we had s-x? Is that the reason why you want us to break up?"

I closed my eyes for the second time as I said, "Yes." I felt my heart shattered into pieces once more. Giving up the person you love with a great deal is indeed the hardest thing to do in this world.

"Just because something happened between us doesn't mean I have to marry her." He retorted.

"Tristan, come to think of the baby. You would let that child grow up without a father?" I asked him in disbelief. Hindi naman tama na pagkatapos mong anakan ay iiwan mo nalang na parang basura.

"Ella, there's no child involved here!" he groaned frustrated at me this time. He scooted closer and held both my hand. "It's just you and me now, nothing else."

"But the baby..."

"There's no baby..."

"Wait... what do you mean there's no baby? Did she just deceive us?" I asked. I don't understand anything.

He shook his head as he looked down his feet. "She lost it. She had a miscarriage." I could tell how badly he was hurt as he said those words. I could see that he already love the baby and I felt bad for him... and for Erinn.

"I'm sorry." I whispered giving him some sympathy. I hated Erinn. I hated the baby though I know it's not his fault. They were the reason why my world broke down. But this time, I felt sad about her. No mother would want to lose her child. It might still be some piece of blood inside her womb but it has a life in it. It's a life that ended too soon. "What about Erinn?" I can't help but ask.

"She left after she recovered from the hospital. She blamed me for what had happened. I don't know where she is now and I decided not to reach to her."

"I'm sorry Tristan. I'm really sorry." I hugged him. I took him into my arms like a little boy.

After few moments of silence, he finally pulled away. He started caressing my cheeks with his thumb.

"But maybe that is God's way of leading us back together. No one will hinder us again. It's still sad to know that the baby is gone but let's just be thankful. Everything happens for a reason."

I smiled at him.

"I love you babe." He said. He was about to kiss me but I covered my lips. "What?"

"You're not allowed to kiss me."

"Why not?" he whined.

"Because we already broke up and..."

"No. I'm your boyfriend and you're still my girlfriend." He admonished.

"It's not for you to decide."

"Ano bang gusto mong gawin ko? Gusto mo lumuhod ako sa harapan mo at magmakaawa? Sige, gagawin ko." At lumuhod nga siya sa harapan ko. "Please Ella. I love you. Wag mo ng ituloy ang desisyon mo. Please, stay with me." He pleaded. His eyes are starting water.

"Tumayo ka nga!"

"No." he stubbornly said. "Say the word. Tell me once again that you're mine and I'm yours. Take me back."

I stared at him. I scrutinized his eyes, looking into his soul. I could see his sincerity. I could see his love. But I couldn't see hope, not in his eyes but deep inside me. I don't know if I will be able to take another shot. I've been hurt a lot. My trust was broken. I don't have any idea how to fix it.

"Please... I love you." A tear fell from his eye. "Please."

That's it. As if on I cue, my heart quickly decided. Screw that hope I couldn't find, I'm staying with him.

"Okay." I whisperingly declared.

He gave me a relieved smile as he stood up. Caressing my face, he slowly lowered to give me a quick kiss. "I love you." He said and he kissed my forehead.

"And I love you too."

He pulled me for a hug as he lifted me up and swirled me around. The room filled our sweet laughs of happiness. There's no reason for me to give him up at all. All I need to work now is forgiveness and I'm almost there. I know, somehow, I'd learn to trust him again, sooner or later. It's in the process. I know giving this relationship another shot will be one of best decisions we'll both ever make. I love him and he loves me. It's all that matters.
