Chapter 28

CHAPTER 28: His Reason

(Zoe's POV)

I was staring at him for God knows how long it was when something strucked me. He left. I immediately broke the eye contact and turned my gaze into the somewhere.

I heard him sigh. "My father is in a state of comatose for a year now." He trailed off.

Napatingin ako sa kanya. Ito ba yun? Ito ba yung reason niya kung bakit siya umalis? And si Tito Ted? Comatose?

"P-paano?"

"He's got into a car accident."

Bakit hindi ko alam 'to? They're in the business world and sikat ang company at pamilya nila? How come the issue was tranquil?

Nabasa niya ata yung iniisip ko dahil sa sinabi niya, "We kept it from everyone including the media and all the employees in the company but excluding the board, alam nila yun."

"Kaya ka ba umalis?"

He nodded, "I went to Cali with Mom and my brother. Dun kase si ipapaconfine si Daddy dahil nandun ang mga doctors niya."

So he was in California all those times.

"It was so hard Ella, seeing my father lie in a hospital bed and unconscious with many tubes connected to his body. At si Mom, kahit gaano niya ipinapakita na malakas siya, I would still catch her silently crying while holding Dad's hand whenever she's alone in the room. And my brother, my little brother who's very close with Dad, lagi niyang tinatanong kung anong nangyayari kay Dad pero hindi masagot ni Mommy. Sinasabi ko nalang sa kanya na natutulog lang si Dad pero umiiyak din siya pagkatapos. Bakit daw ang tagal gumising ni Daddy, yan yung kasunod na tanong niya palagi."

It's breaking my heart to see him in tears. This is hard for him, too hard. I gave him a hug to console him at least.

"Why didn't you tell me?"

He should've told me about it para hindi niya mag-isang hinarap yung problema.

"Sasabihin ko naman dapat sayo but not in that moment. I was ashamed of what I did, that I just flew to California na hindi nagpapalaam. Alam kong galit ka kaya nagdesisyon akong palipasin muna hanggang sa nagising ako at sobrang tagal na pala..." he breathed, a deep one "sobrang tagal na pala na nawala ka na sa isip ko."

Napakalas ako sa yakap at bumagsak yung luha ko.

"N-nakalimutan mo ako?"

Tumingin siya sa baba, "I'm sorry." He said, his voice is filled with guilt.

I slowly stepped backward, "Nakalimutan mo ako habang ako halos mabaliw sa kakaisip sayo?" my sight became a little blurry.

Humakbang siya papalapit sa akin but I stopped him, "Stay where you are Tristan, don't you dare come near me!"

He didn't listen to me instead he went near me and pulled me for a rib-breaking hug. "I'm sorry Ella, I'm so sorry."

Pinilit kong kumalas sa yakap niya but the more I tried, the tighter his hug has become.

"Bitawan mo 'ko Tristan, utang na loob, bitawan mo 'ko." I said between my sobs.

"No Ella. I'm sorry."

Tanggap ko naman eh, tanggap ko na sana na hindi niya sinabi sa akin yung nangyari pero yung nakalimutan niya ako... ang sakit, sobrang sakit.

I stopped myself from pulling from his hug and just cried while throwing punches on his chest. "How could you Tristan? Ang sakit na ng loob ko." I was weeping really hard. "I hate you, I hate you for making me hurt this bad."

He kept on muttering 'I know' and 'I'm sorry' trying to comfort me.

"I'm here now, I came back for you. I came back for us."

Dapat masaya ako ngayon kase nandito siya, kase bumalik siya para sa akin, but the fact that he forgot about my existence messed it all. Alam kong masakit yung nangyari sa kanya dahil naaksidente ang padre de pamilya nila pero may karapatan naman akong magalit diba? I do have the right because I'm his girlfriend... or let's say I was his girlfriend.

"Not everything could have a new beginning. Some things are bound to screw up in the end."

"We don't need to start again Ella, we never ended."

And what he said was damn right, we never broke up in the first place... all he just did was broke my heart.

"I don't know. Let's go now, I want to go home."
