"First Day Of Classes"
-FIRST DAY OF CLASSES OF SEVENTH YEAR CAME QUICKER THAN THE STUDENTS EXPECTED. Students, who all grew up together in these very halls, were going to be leaving those walls in less than a year, never to return again.
Adhara walked into the first class of the day with her brother, potions class taught by Professor Slughorn.
She shared a look with Draco, both of them simultaneously rolling their eyes. Snape was always going to be the best potions professor Hogwarts ever had.
"Welcome, to your last year of taking Potions!" Slughorn enthusiastically clapped his hands, looking at the Gryffindors and Slytherins. There weren't many students in the classroom. Only a few. "Some look more excited than others, but that's alright! Grab your ingredients from over there." He motioned towards where the ingredients were. "And turn to page fifty-seven in your books. Today's potion will be harder than usual."
Adhara high-fived her brother after they walked out of the Potions classroom, both of them perfecting the particularly hard potion. No surprises there.
"What class do we have next?" Draco asked her, taking her bag from her shoulder without her asking and putting it on his own.
"I can hold my bag myself, Dray." Adhara pointed out in amusement, but gave him a grateful smile. Then, she looked at the schedule in her hands. "We've got Defense Against the Dark Arts."
Draco groaned. He raised up his hands when she looked at him in confusion. "What? I like the teachers, alright? But the class is so boring. I mean, why do we even need defense?" He tried to reason.
She gave him a look of disbelief as they walked up the staircases leading to the Defense classroom. "To live, maybe?" She shot back in sarcasm.
He scoffed and shook his head. "Not really."
"You wouldn't know a simple expelliarmus without this class, Dray."
He couldn't argue with that. She was right. That didn't stop him from complaining under his breath about the 'boring' class that was actually the most fun.
Sirius Black and James Potter were standing infront of the desks filled with students, greeting the two siblings with respective nods. They nodded back and sat down in the back.
It was the full moon that night. Adhara was quite worried for Remus again.
Her eyes scanned the Gryffindor side of the room, tuning out the two professors.
Her eyes stopped on Hermione, like always. Her eyes would always stop on Hermione.
Whenever her eyes found Hermione, it felt like Adhara found what she was searching for her entire life.
She crossed her arms and looked away the same second Ron turned around. She clenched her jaw, trying to act like she wasn't just staring at his girlfriend two seconds ago.
But from the corner of her eyes, she saw his suspicious frown just before he looked away.
"You're awfully quiet," pointed out her brother in a whisper. Knowing why, infact, his sister was awfully quiet.
Adhara didn't reply. Her eyes merely found their way to the girl. The girl, who was listening to the professors and writing down notes on the parchment infront of her.
Hermione didn't seem to be hurt. Infact, she looked happier than ever.
Adhara was crushed inside. She wished she made Hermione happier than ever when she had the chance to. The many chances she had, she just wasted them.
The universe had this awful habit of taking away what mattered most.
The universe also had this awful habit to make you realize the worth of something by losing it, if you hadn't realized it from the start.
