"Seventh Year"
-ADHARA HAD DECIDED TO SPEND THE LAST WEEKEND OF SUMMER AT THE MALFOYS. They were her family, too, after all. But summer finally ended, and soon enough, the students all boarded the train back to Hogwarts.
After hugging both of her parents and assuring them that she'd be alright, Adhara walked into the train with her brother, Draco.
Within a few minutes, they were at their usual Slytherin compartment. Draco put both of their trunks in the storage shelf above them, then sat down next to her, greeting Pansy who was already there.
Pansy greeted him back, then greeted Adhara. "Hi, Ara." She said, turning away immediately and looking out the windows.
There wasn't anything to look at out the window, but Adhara knew it was so that they wouldn't make eye contact.
"Hi, Pans." Adhara mumbled, looking away and opening the book in her hands, her legs on top of her brother's lap.
Draco sneered when Blaise walked in, giving a girl a flirtatious wink before opening the door and sitting next to Pansy. "You still haven't matured, mate?" He asked the boy.
Blaise merely gave him a lopsided, cheeky grin. "Of course not, Draco. Where would the fun in that be?" He replied, ignoring the other boy's look. He turned to Adhara and said, "I heard you gave up being the head girl. Granger now is the headgirl. Why?"
Adhara looked up from her book and glared at him. "Don't go telling people that, Blaise." She warned him. "She doesn't know I gave it up."
"Why would you do that for her?" Pansy asked in confusion and disbelief, knowing the girl in front of her didn't do it for selfish reasons. "She's not even your girlfriend anymore."
Adhara turned to her this time, glaring at her for once. But that glare quickly turned into hurt when she realized what Pansy said. "That's mean, Pans." She merely mumbled, then looked back at her book and tried to continue reading.
But her mind wasn't on the book in front of her. It was on a certain girl down the train, in the Gryffindor compartments.
Dinner in the great hall that night felt like home in a way. However, Adhara was too busy playing with her food by pushing it around the plate with her fork, than eating it.
Draco elbowed her softly, snapping her out of her thoughts. "Why aren't you eating?" He pointed out in concern.
He raised an eyebrow when she put a piece of broccoli in her mouth and chewed on it. "Happy?" She asked, rolling her eyes when he shook his head. She then gave him an apologetic look for rolling her eyes. He merely gave her an understanding smile and went back to talking to Blaise.
Adhara's eyes found the Gryffindor table. More specifically, the golden trio.
Hermione was holding Ron's hand, her eyes on the boy with a huge smile on her face as she listened to him talk with Harry. As if feeling someone's eyes on her, the Gryffindor girl looked Adhara's way immediately. Her smile slowly faltered.
Adhara plastered on a small, fake smile, then looked away. She let out a sigh.
Pansy, who noticed the exchange, was merely quiet, taking a sip of water. Then, she let out a sigh too. "Are you going to mope forever or do you want to come to the loo with me to wash your face?"
The girl beside her glanced at her from the corner of her eyes and shook her head. "I'd rather mope for now."
"Well, you're making it very obvious." Pansy pointed out, cringing at how harsh she sounded. "Sorry, but I mean I don't like seeing you like this, Ara. I want you happy."
"You didn't want that when my happiness was with her," pointed out Adhara, just as harsh.
Pansy became quiet for a second. Then, she whispered, "If I didn't, she would've found out about you cheating from me. Not from you admitting it yourself." And stood up, walking out of the great hall.
Blaise stopped talking and shot Adhara a confused look. "What was that all about?" He asked, pointing to a leaving Pansy.
She shrugged in return and took a sip from the goblet filled with pumpkin juice. "Dunno," she lied.
