Another item packed into a bag. Sophie was helping Keefe get ready for discharge tomorrow. It had been over two weeks since he had been in the hospital.

Every day, when Sophie went into the room, the morale seemed to be sinking lower and lower. It broke her heart. She thought things were getting better. Unfortunately, a few days later, he was back to sulking. Today was no different.

"I'm going to assume you want Mrs. Stinkbottom for tonight?" She asked before stuffing the green anteater in the bag.

A little noise of agreement from under the blankets.

She sighed. She was hoping for at least a verbal awnser this time. No such luck.

Keefe peeked his head out from the covers. He scooted to one side of the bed. "Will you lay with me," he murmured. "I wanna cuddle."

Sophie dropped the clothes she was putting up. "Of course I will."

That just made her heart hurt worse. He was so utterly defeated that he just straight up asked. Normally, he would've implied or beat around the bush.

She sat on the edge of the bed and slowly lowered herself down beside him. She draped her arm over him and rubbed his back. He buried his face in her neck, holding onto her.

"I love you," he whispered.

She kissed his head. "I love you too."

He eventually drifted off. Sophie wasn't going to be able to fall asleep. Not at four in the afternoon. She laid there, zoning off.

One of the nurses came into the room. Sophie froze. Technically, she wasn't positive she was allowed to be in the bed with him.

She locked eyes with the nurse. "Sorry," she mumbled sheepishly. "He asked me, and I wasn't going to tell him no. Do I need to get out?"

"You're alright, girl," the nurse, whose name tag said 'Livvy', told her. "I just need to get his vitals."

Sophie shifted so Livvy could get the blood pressure cuff around Keefe's arm. He stayed dead asleep, not even stirring. When she left, Sophie cuddled him back into her arms.

The next morning was quite hectic. Ro wasn't able to get off work in time for discharge, so she'd be meeting them at the house. Sophie helped Keefe into one of the loose sweatshirts that had been brought to him from his sister. He winced, trying to get his arms high enough.

She threw the bag over her shoulder as the nurse came by with paperwork. There was no legal adult present, so she put Ro on the phone for Elwin.

After that got sorted out, Livvy rolled a wheelchair over. Sophie helped pull Keefe to his feet while Elwin started setting up the portable oxygen pack.

She pulled the car to the front in time for Keefe to be wheeled out. When he was in, he had to catch his breath. Sophie reached for his hand.

She avoided as many potholes as she could. But some bumps would still sneak up on her, making her feel bad when Keefe whimpered.

When she pulled into the driveway, Ro was just getting out of her car. They made a team effort to get Keefe out of the car. He wobbled a bit once he was on his feet.

They walked him up the steps to walk through the doorway. She helped him settle on the couch.

"Ok, I'm gonna have to leave now," Sophie told him. "Will you be alright?"

Keefe nodded.

"Alright, I love you. Bye."

"Bye," he murmured. He managed to sit up enough for a kiss before she went out the door.
