"I am NOT going on that," Linh told everyone.
They were currently looking at a giant roller coaster. It was the biggest one at the theme park. Sophie and her friends were at the park for a middle school graduation field trip.
"Me neither," Dex agreed.
"Aww, come on," Keefe complained. "It'll be fun! Right, Foster?"
Sophie snorted. "You must be insane if you think I'm going on that."
"Is anyone going to ride it with me?" He asked the group.
No one spoke up until Tam eventually said, "I won't be going on it. But I'd be willing to pay money to see someone else go on it. Whoever else goes gets the leftover money I have left at the end of the night."
Keefe's face lit up as everyone started to ponder the deal. Sophie finally stepped up when no one jumped at the opportunity.
"Fine, I guess I'll do it," she caved.
Tam saluted her. "Good luck. We'll see if you survive it."
Keefe grabbed her arm and started dragging her into the line. It took thirty minutes of standing in line until they were at the front.
He was bouncing on the balls of his feet. Meanwhile, she was ready to chicken out and run back to the rest of their group.
But it was too late. The cart stopped in front of them, and they were loaded in.
Sophie gripped his hand, and he chuckled.
"It'll be fine," he reassured her.
She just squeezed tighter.
The ride started moving. She was immediately regretting all her life decisions, as it picked up. She kept her eyes closed the whole time the ride continued climbing up the hills. Higher. Higher. Higher.
She screeched like a six year old as the cart plummeted down. Keefe yelled in delight.
Several twists later, Sophie's worst fear happened.
"KEEFE!" She screamed when her heart stalled a beat.
He turned to her with a grin on his face. He laughed at her expression. She gripped his hand, trying to warn him of what was happening.
Keefe finally realized what was going on when her eyes glazed over. Struggling against the velocity of the coaster, he held her head against his shoulder. The tingles and darkness took over.
When she came back to consciousness, they were in the middle of a loop. She didn't have the energy to yell. She just buried her face in his shoulder and whimpered.
The next loop, her stomach dropped, and her lunch twisted. She groaned.
Sophie started crying when the roller coaster didn't slow down. He held onto her tighter.
After what seemed like an eternity, the cart slowed to a stop. Keefe helped her walk off the ride and stumble to the exit. Her head was still spinning. A migraine was piercing her skull. Her stomach was doing backflips.
The only thing she was able to do was fumble over her feet to the nearest trash can and puke into it. Keefe held her hair away from her face and rubbed her back.
"What happened?" Biana asked when her other friends came running over.
"Seizure," Sophie rasped.
"I'm sorry," Keefe pleaded. "I didn't know that was going to happen!"
"It's ok," she mumbled, burying her face in his chest. "It's not your fault."
He held her, stroking her hair.
"I'm done with rides for a little bit," she whispered. "Can we go find somewhere to sit down."
He nodded, and started to lead her to one of the benches.
