Sophie curled up on her bed. She was currently on day three of her period and was in misery.

She was under the covers. Her knees were pulled up to her chest. She'd been sitting there all day, suffering.

There was a knock on her door. Sophie told them to come in. Edaline peeked her head in.

"Hey. Keefe is here to hang out. Do you want me to send him in or tell him not today?"

"You can let him in. I'd like some company."

She nodded and left down the hall. Several moments later, the door opened. Keefe walked in and leaned against the doorframe. He gave a crooked grin.

"What's up, Foster? What'dya want to do today?"

She shook her head. "Just wanna lay here. I'm hurting."

His face fell. "Something wrong?"

"Period cramps," she mumbled.

"Oh."

He went and sat on the edge of the bed. "Do you need anything?"

She shook her head. "I just want a hug."

Keefe took the clue. He settled himself against the headboard in the middle of the bed. He let Sophie curl up near him and lay her head on his chest.

With the comfort of being just the two of them, he pulled the lanyard out from his shirt and adjusted it so the monitor would be away from Sophie. She moved her head in a more comfortable position now that the space was free.

"You alright?" he murmured.

She nodded. He ran his hand up and down her back when she tensed back up. She let out a small wimper.

"Let's try and find you something to keep your mind off it," he suggested.

Sophie was hoping for it quickly. She wasn't enjoying the constant stabbing in her uterus.

Keefe reached over on the nightstand. He took the book they were currently reading together and opened it to where they left off.

Sophie seemed to ease a bit when he got into the rhythm of reading the book, entranced in the story. She was usually the one to be reading aloud since his attention span usually couldn't read for more than thirty minutes at a time. It was nice being the one getting read to for once.

Keefe noticed her staring at the pages, listening intently to the words. He smiled a little at her and brushed the hair away from her face.

Either the distraction was working, or the cramps were easing up, because Sophie was able to stretch out a bit without wanting to cry. She reached her arm around him, holding on in a hug.

With the place her ear was, she could hear his heart beating. It was reminiscent of the heart monitors of the hospital. Just now, the real thing. It instinctively calmed her.

Her eyes were growing heavy now. But she still wanted to hear the story. Unfortunately, when Keefe started to scratch her head, it was game over. She was out like a light.

Sophie awoke briefly as her bedroom door was closing. She could see amber hair before it closed. Edaline must've come in to check on them, because there was now a blanket over the pair.

The book was now beside her, falling out of Keefe's hand. Looking up, she found his head lolling to the side, his snores quiet.

She moved the book away so she could hold onto his hand. His grip slightly tightened, even in his sleep.

She drifted back off with him.
