"Finally...A ROAD!" f/n roared as she sprinted out of the forest. After hours of searching, a new sight greeted her. No more hiking through the wilderness! No more starving and eating the possibly poisonous berries along her path! Time to go home and eat a warm meal from her brothe-
"HONKKK–" A truck blared, its headlights blinding f/n as she tried to jump out of the way.
"You got to be kidding me."
Crash!
—
Beep, Beep, Beep...
What's going on? I feel so much more tired than before...I can hear something...
"f/n? Are...? Can you...hear me?" A low voice hurriedly asked, yet some of his words were indiscernible. She felt her hand being squeezed before she started to squint and open her eyes.
"f/n!" Hayato called out, Oda being behind him. Looking around, she could finally confirm that she was in the hospital. She tried to move her body to reach out towards them, however her lack of strength shocked her.
As she stared at her limp arm enveloped in a cast, f/n eventually opened her mouth. "How long was I gone?" She murmured, her voice much more hoarse and quiet from what they remembered.
Hayato grimaced, his fists clenched against his side. "Five days," he replied. "We found you because we got notified of a truck crashing outside the city."
"Sure didn't feel like five days," f/n scoffed. "I could've sworn I've been in that forest for weeks. I also didn't expect that my first interaction with society after being kidnapped would be almost dying to a truck."
"It was quite the wake-up call..." Oda added with a look of concern on his face.
The other man nodded, sharing the same sentiments. Oda walked around to the side of the bed Hayato was not standing at and proceeded to sit down on the folded sheets. f/n felt his warm weight shift the bed as Oda brought himself closer.
"I'm sorry." He whispered, his voice barely above the volume of the air conditioning unit.
"What for? This wasn't something that was one person's fault alone." f/n interjected, her eyebrows narrowing.
Oda sighed before continuing to speak, "I don't want you to feel pressured to become a hero just because your mother was one. If you want to go a different path, then I would fully support you! Don't feel like you have to, please. This is just..."
"I want this." f/n stated. Oda and Hayato's eyes widened at her unwavering stance. "I know it doesn't really sound like me. I mean, at first I thought I was just making a huge mistake, like I was jumping into conclusions, but now...this is something that I really want to do. I need to do it."
Hayato lowered his head, taking a step back from the side of the bed. "Even after what happened to you?"
"I'm stronger than before. Trust me." She replied.
"It's not like we don't trust you! I just–" He exclaimed, "I just can't keep sitting here knowing that some days, you might not come home. Do you know how afraid I am? Honestly..."
"But, I'm here now! I can do it!"
"That's not the point!"
"You-"
"Stop it." Oda yelled, his voice cutting off the argument. "Hayato, your sister just woke up, let's notify a nurse and let her rest. We'll talk later." He stood up from the bed and grabbed the back of Hayato's neck, guiding him to the door like a lion and his cub.
