The Usual and Unusual

"So, that's a taste of what it's like to fight a guy like me!" Cheered, Mirio as the rest of Class 1-A clutched onto their stomachs in pain.

"Damn, you're so lucky being born into such a powerful quirk!" Jeered Mineta.

"Wrong. You see, while Permeation does allow me to pass through anything, I can't breath, see, or hear anything while in that state. Not only that, say I were to pass through a wall, I would have to activate my entire body but one leg, only to do the opposite when trying to get the rest of my body to the other side. Everytime I use my quirk, I'm in total concentration." He explained, "You won't get to the top if you think the only thing that matters is if you have a strong quirk or not, you have to think!"

His speech left the students eager to get into a work study. "Since we have our license now, we can actually do real hero work." Pondered Jiro, as she recalled how she wasn't allowed to do anything that would put her in harm's way.

f/n nodded as she watched her tired classmates. As she got up and brushed the dust off her pants, a slight vibration caught her attention.

It was a text from Airy.

Talk about good timing. f/n snickered quietly to herself, causing Jiro to look back at her. "It's nothing."

"So, what's up?" f/n asked, with the side of her cheek next to the phone. Despite the quality of Airy's voice being distorted by the call, she could still hear his smug tone.

"Oh, it's not much...but," He drawled out, "I'm sure by this time of the year, UA has talked to you about work studies?"

"Yes. I'm assuming that this is your invitation, or am I wrong?" f/n replied, getting quick to the point.

Airy laughed loudly, requiring f/n to pull her phone away from her ear suddenly. "I mean, if you insist..." he continued dubiously, "There's something you should know though."

"What?"

"I think this is something we should talk about in-person."

"That's just inefficient. Tell me now."

"No really, f/n. I can't-"

"Stop beating around the bush and tell me already!"

"Animus is back."

"...what?"

Late at night once f/n got back to the dorms, fatigue took over her as she flopped onto the bed. That man is back? How? Was he never caught?

After the kidnapping incident, f/n was never informed of the status of Animus. Whether it was because nobody wanted to remind her of that man, or rather, something much worse occurred. It was only because of Yuzuki that she was able to escape after all, but what she didn't expect was that Animus would try to reach her once again.

"Ugh!" f/n grunted as she grumbled into her pillow. "I can't stop thinking, and I can't sleep. It's making my stomach all weird." She lifted her hand that was enwrapping her sheets feverishly.

I'm shaking so much. Am I...scared?

"It would be really lame if you were." Yuzuki sneered, obviously taunting her.

f/n covered her ears quickly with her hands. "I don't want to listen to you right now. Get lost."

"Huh."

She laid still in her bed, waiting until complete silence surrounded her in her dark room. f/n wasn't even sure how much time had passed while she aimlessly stared into the corners of the room.

"I'm thirsty."

In the common room, f/n headed towards the kitchen to grab a glass of water. She didn't pay any mind to the shadows of the room which stalked behind her as she lifted her glass to the cold water dispenser. Just as she was about to take a sip, a firm hand grabbed her shoulder.

"Holy shit!" f/n coughed, her hand jerking upwards causing water to splash the front of her shirt.

"Sorry." The cold voice said. Looking up, she saw Todoroki right next to her. That was unusual.

f/n grabbed a nearby towel before wiping down the surfaces which she got wet. "What's got you up?"

"Stuff." He responded vaguely, "About my family...my father."

f/n nodded, unsure of where to bring this awkward conversation to.

"You?" He asked. f/n looked at him surprised, not expecting him to attempt to continue this chat.

"Stuff."

"Oh."

"Yeah," f/n trailed, "Actually, there is something important that's going to happen. Maybe."

Todoroki wordlessly nodded, waiting for her to continue.

"I don't think you'll see much of me anymore."

"What?"

"That's all I'm going to say."

"l/n?" But before he could grab her shoulder once more, she disappeared into the shadows.

On the next school day, Todoroki arrived early to the classroom. As usual, all the early birds were here, chatting about the most miscellaneous topics. He tried to eavesdrop in order to distract his mind but he kept returning to the conversation he had with f/n last night.

His sister Fuyumi told him that it's improper to barge into rooms of people you aren't exactly close with. Would f/n be a close friend? Wait, but wouldn't this situation be different since she's a girl?

Todoroki grumbled, rustling his hair furiously, very unlike his general demeanor.

"Ah, Todoroki! This is unusual, is something the matter? As your classmate, I would greatly appreciate it if you could share any of your concerns with me!" Iida smiled, his hand in his customary rigid position.

"Not really, but–"

"You know what's really unusual? f/n's been ignoring my texts, and we're even talking about her favorite band's upcoming live show." Jiro accidentally interjected, twirling her earjack with her finger.

"Yes, I haven't seen her since before the weekend." Tokoyami agreed.

"f/n..." Todoroki murmured.

Iida perked up, "Yes? Did you say something, Todoroki?"

"No, it's nothing." It should be nothing...

But today, f/n did not come to school. Nor the next day. Or the day after.
