One guy awoke from his slumber with a heaving sigh. The work has been piling up like crazy, as seen by the comically high stack of papers on his desk. Was it his fault? Maybe (it was). Dealing with literal natural disasters in the humble state of Florida, the man thought. Such hassle, but he was glad he didn't get sent flying during it. He cracked his neck, checking the clock. 12 pm. Who minds sleeping in, anyway? He looked at himself in the mirror, adjusting his crazed hair, and eyed the name tag on his door. A colorful decoration:

"Truth"

Why should there be a rush anyway, he has nothing much to do. He has other things that are pretty pertinent already, the rest of the seemingly trivial stuff goes to the wayside. Despite this, he gives it some thought...

Trying not to die from a disaster, papers to write, equations to solve, people to talk to, hospital visits, a fat essay... Writing. Paper. Writing. Writing. Fiction. Fan...

Immediately, his eyes blew open wide. "You can't be serious", the fool says as his hand grasps his phone and turns it on, scrolling hastily to an app. He checked the status of his current works...

July 12th.

The last time he actually updated the fucking story. His eyes flitted to the calendar. October!? The man paled immensely. He let this fly out of his mind for 3 whole months and then some. 3. One fourth of an entire year.

"Fuck."

Uh... Hey guys. It's me. I'm alive. First of all, 50k?? People still reading this!? I wasn't exactly sure if you guys will be here anymore. Lack of updates probably killed this story, and I'm not even mad. I did that myself, regardless of excuses. Life has been quite the roller coaster, sorry. Funerals, storms, fucked up hand, school (especially school), and extracurriculars that sort of kind of probably shaped my future, but I won't divulge on that too much. Basically, I'm back. And boy do I have some stuff I want to write down. A potential rewrite, next arcs, so on and so forth. I never did promise anything, but I will try and stay committed. It's tough. It isn't just school, it's so much stuff that something like this became sort of trivial, but that's just how it is. It's tough, but so am I. I hope you guys at least enjoy this chapter!

What does it mean to be a king? What does it mean to be a Queen?

Was it to be strong and unchanging, despite the voices of the people? Is it to be stern and to wield a harsh iron fist over the lands? Or is it to be kind, and benevolent to those you rule, to accept things that may or may not benefit your kingdom. To rule with love, or respect, is the question.

"Since love and fear can hardly exist together, if we must choose between them, it is far safer to be feared than loved." Said by Niccolo Machiavelli. He argued that it was safer to rule with fear. To be respected and feared as someone no one should cross at any point. Trust is scarce.

This is all thrown out the window with the inclusion of devil kind.

Words don't matter. Power doesn't matter. Wealth doesn't matter.

Kings mean nothing to those beyond them. Royalty can't defend themselves from those who were an incarnate of their people's most desperate, darkest fears and anguish. They were seen as myths, divine beings, creatures of mass destruction. The tales reach the times of today, the boogeyman, skin crawlers, monsters under the bed...

It all comes from something.

The French Empire was on its way, advancing through the new territory of the New World and encroached on several native tribes. They were given the task of exploring and establishing settlements, they didn't have time to waste. Their rivals were all taking their chunks of the land with gusto, the Spanish didn't waste any time in executing and enslaving the Natives who tried to defend their land. The British remained steadfast in their own colonial goals.
