Everyday Korean Meals

밥 (Bap)
Plain rice, the base of almost every meal.

찌개 (Jjigae)
Thick stews, often spicy. Popular ones

김치찌개 (Kimchi jjigae)
Kimchi stew with pork or tuna.

Main Dishes

불고기 (Bulgogi)
Marinated beef grilled or stir-fried with veggies. Sweet and savory.

삼겹살 (Samgyeopsal)
Grilled pork belly, eaten with lettuce wraps (ssam) and dipping sauces.

비빔밥 (Bibimbap)
Rice topped with vegetables, egg, gochujang (spicy paste), and sometimes meat. Mix everything before eating.

잡채 (Japchae)
Glass noodles stir-fried with meat and vegetables in a slightly sweet soy sauce.

떡볶이 (Tteokbokki)

갈비 (Galbi)
Marinated short ribs, grilled or braised.

삼계탕 (Samgyetang)
Whole chicken stuffed with rice, ginseng, garlic, and jujubes, simmered into a health-boosting soup.

Side Dishes

Every Korean meal comes with 반찬 (Banchan), little side dishes you share. The most common and well known one is:

김치 (Kimchi) – Fermented spicy cabbage or radish.
