Skylar took his seat in the makeup chair, and got comfortable. As hair and makeup did their magic, his mind wandered. How had he ended up here? He had been a nobody only a year ago, and now here he was on Tonight: LIVE with Jerry Hampton being prepped for the interview of his career.
The monitor backstage displayed the opening monologue, Jerry softening up the crowd with a few zingers, before changing to the pre-prepared video Skylar's team had created.
It played as Skylar walked on set.
Jerry gripped his shoulder and smiled at him, marveling at the young man's weight loss up-close and in-person.
He shook his hand before coming in close and whispering in Skylar's ear.
"This is gonna be quite the interview. Half of America is waiting to see your secret. Let's just hope they can handle it."
At this Skylar's eyes went wide.
He knew.
He broke out into a cold sweat as he took his seat, the camera crew counting down the moments until they went live, as Jerry shot him a wink.
The crowd cheered, the stage lights went hot, and they were live.
"Hey! Welcome back, now wasn't that something?
Now I'm sure you're all asking the same question: Jerry, when are you gonna get on that diet? Nono, I'm sure you're all dying to figure out his secret! And here to tell as all about it himself is the incredible shrinking man himself: Skylar Ritz!"
The crowd cheered as the camera panned to a smiling Skylar, his now sharp jawline curling into a smile as he positioned himself comfortably in the chair.
"So Skylar, you used to weigh over 400 pounds! Insane! I think we have a picture of that, actually."
A photo of Skylar at his biggest weight flashed across the screen, punctuated by a silly fart sound effect.
