You were on edge from the moment you entered your home. You stepped into the kitchen through the backdoor of your house. Slowly closing the door behind you, you looked around for anything suspicious. Your roommate had been pranking you for months as a part of her latest attempt at becoming a popular Youtuber. It was simply exhausting. She'd replaced all your conditioner with pink hair dye. It took weeks to try to get all of the pink dye out. Another time, she tried to fill your room up with green slime but ran out halfway through. The carpet cleaners charged you over $500 to get it all out. And sometimes, she'd just run into your room with a taser and zap you. She did all of these whilst annoyingly holding his phone and recording for her channel. Luckily for you, her videos never got over a hundred views. You should have kicked her out already but she was on the lease and your landlord encouraged you to work it out.

As you walked into the kitchen, you were surprised to see the house both clean and empty. No sign of your roommate meant that your shoulders could relax. You could finally take a deep breath. You went to the fridge to fill your water bottle and that's when you noticed a light was on in the living room.

"Hey can we talk?" Your roommate called out to you from the living room. Alarm bells rang out in your mind. Was this a trap? You were suspicious so you inspected every detail of the home as you walked to the living room. No trip wires. No pieces of tape at eye level stretched across a doorway for you to smack into. You entered the living room and saw Skye sitting in an oversized armchair, her legs folded underneath her butt as she leaned on her elbow. She looked sad, almost mournful. Her dyed long purple hair was messy and hung over half her face. You'd never seen her in such a mood.

"Sure, we can talk." You said still full of anxiety and adrenaline as you patted the couch cushions before sitting down. Usually something bad would've happened by now.

"I'm sorry. For all the pranks... I got a little carried away with the whole Youtube thing. I just wanted to make it work so bad that I lost sight of your feelings. I want you to have this, it should cover all the repairs to the house." Skye tossed an envelope onto the coffee table. It made a thud as it landed. You never considered that she'd ever pay you back for all the damage she'd caused.

"Thanks. Don't worry about it. We all can get carried away sometimes. So you're done with it for good?" You tried to comfort her whilst trying to figure out if she was being genuine. She'd gone deep with some of her pranks before. However, the tears forming in her eyes would be hard to fake.

"For good." She nodded and brushed a few drops from her eyes. Despite all of her past discretions, her devastation was hard to watch. There was a time where you would have reveled in it but now that it was happening in front of you, you were overcome with empathy.

"Well... I was going to watch a movie. Did you wanna hang for a bit?" You asked, still unsure if this conversation was really happening. You turned the TV on and opened your favorite streaming app.

"Of course roomie! Let's start over." Skye jumped up from her seat and then plopped down on the couch next to you.

Your relationship with your roommate drastically improved since your conversation that night. It had only been a week but Skye was going above and beyond to be the best roommate. She'd do the dishes, take the trash out, and even helped do your laundry. The fridge was always well stocked and she encouraged you to eat whatever you wanted from it. Her new baking hobby was really great too! Almost every single day you'd come home to a banana bread, a plate full of brownies, or a freshly frosted layer cake. Obviously, these treats were too good to resist.
