Alone in the woods

A/n: Hey, first off above everything else, i want to thank you all for 10k reads. Honestly i never thought i would make this mile stone because honestly i don't have much confidence in my writings, obviously it's not the best but i'm still glad people have stopped by and have read some of the things i've wrote, all of this is just some dumb hobby i have and i'm glad it has some people who've read through it. so from the bottom of my heart thank you.

*Brunswick Farms*

Night had fallen on the brunswick farms, most of the kids were sitting in the study while ruby sat on the stairs lost in her thoughts, she sighs to herself before looking into the study overseeing the safety of her team and the rest of her friends, she gets up and walks over to qrow and saeth where sitting by the blocked off door, Saeth leaned on a wall staring down at the floor while Qrow sat on a chair with a bottle of wine just beside the chair, Qrow notices ruby but he doesn't look at her, instead he stares out the window looking at the sky.

Qrow: Storms cleared up for now, we should be able to leave by morning

Ruby: Well that's good...

Qrow: No... I have a bad feeling about this place, especially with me around

Ruby: Are you... okay?

Qrow: Sure...

Saeth: Qrow.

Qrow rolls his eyes and sighs

Qrow: Look kid, just tell everyone to get some sleep, i wake up everyone early so we can leave before sunrise...

Ruby begins to walk away, Qrow grabs the bottle of wine and takes a sip causing ruby to turn around and look at him, she was worried for her uncle but she ultimately let him have her space which caused her to think back to her conversation with keith early that day, she looks up stairs towards the room keith had locked himself in before walking back into the study. Inside the study, Weiss sat by the fire while Coda and Yang sat by Maria and Oscar who was reading a book, Adam and Blake sat on the other side of the room with Adam clearly keeping his distance from coda.

Coda: What do you have your face buried in abuela?

Maria looked up from her book and at her grandson, she closes it and look at the cover with the number 3 on it

Maria: It's a series of journals that belonged to the owner of the property, Bartleby. Apparently he and several other families founded this little settlement to try and live on their own, it sounds like it worked... at least for a spell

Oscar: Grimm?

Maria: just one of the many hardships, slowed down their farming and made everything hard, shame really he seemed like a smart fellow always thinking of new schemes to overcome the odds.

Ruby steps further into the room and clears her throat as she addresses the others.

Ruby: Qrow said we should get some sleep, we're gonna head out early tomorrow.

Blake gets up from where she sat and pulled adam's hand for him to follow her

Blake: Thank goodness...

Everyone began gathering blankets to get ready for bed, Maria rolled her eyes as she moved to the other side of the room to sit on a recliner with the journal and hand

Maria: Last thing i need is some kid telling me what to do "gO tO bEd"

Ruby giggles as she walks over to grab herself a set of blankets before everyone starts to get ready for bed with the fireplace lighting the room in an orange glow.

*Mantle*

Strand stood on a rooftop smoking a cigar, he listened to the sounds of the city which was mostly industrial cars and the announcements made by the billboards that atlas had set around the city, it was a lot of the same bullshit fed to the citizens everyday, strand didn't even think they believed it themselves. He heard some cars pull up to a stop by the building he was standing on, he took one last puff of his cigar before snubbing it out on the floor. He looked down into an alley under him and saw several men in suits walking into a side door of the building across from him. Strand took out his scroll and snapped a picture of them before waiting a bit for the men to enter the building. Strand jumped down from the building grabbing onto the wall and using it to slide down to ground level, he walked over to the window of the building a peered inside only to see an office with nothing inside
