Two hours later, Ethan sat exhausted on a bench at the hospital entrance, gulping down soda to replenish his energy.
Although the Nine Palaces Reviving Needle was merely a finishing touch, performing it had still drained a lot of his strength.
Coupled with the confrontation with River Traum, Ethan was too tired to move. He was so worn out that he temporarily set aside his thoughts of seeking revenge on Liam Collins.
After finishing three bottles of soda, just as he was about to practice the Taiji Scripture to restore his strength, someone rushed out of the hospital.
It was Jack Yates, who had just had his wounds treated. He ran towards Ethan with a burst of energy.
His blood-stained clothes were gone, replaced by a clean auxiliary police uniform, which made him look a bit more spirited.
However, his head was half-bandaged, making him look like a mummy.
Without saying a word, he gave Ethan a big hug.
"Brother, thank you."
Jack Yates laughed heartily:
"No need for more words. If you ever need anything in the future, just say the word. Jack Yates would march through fire and water without hesitation."
He was proud and defiant but also a man who knew gratitude. Even without considering Ethan's abilities, just the life-saving favor alone was worth his loyalty.
"Officer Yates, you're too kind," Ethan smiled. "It's enough that you're safe."
"Do you have any protective charms or the like?"
Jack Yates grinned, "Get me a few, especially the kind that makes you invulnerable to bullets and blades. Money's not an issue."
"Do you think I'm a deity?"
Ethan couldn't help but laugh, "If I had such things, why would I bother running a clinic? I'd be selling them on battlefields in the Middle East and become the richest man in the world."
"I don't care. Just get me something good," Jack Yates insisted shamelessly. "Anything for protection, luck, or warding off evil spirits will do."
At this moment, he trusted Ethan completely, just like Raymond Yates did.
With no other choice, Ethan chuckled, "Alright, after you finish your tasks, come to the clinic. I'll get you a jade charm."
Jack Yates was overjoyed, "It's settled then."
"Watch my stuff for a bit. I need to use the restroom."
Ethan placed his bag containing acupuncture needles and his phone on the bench, then quickly ran towards the restroom nearby.
After three bottles of soda, his stomach couldn't hold out any longer.
"Ding—"
No sooner had Ethan disappeared than his phone on the bag began vibrating incessantly. A call from Ricky came in.
Jack Yates glanced at the phone, hesitated, and didn't answer.
The call stopped, but Ricky called again.
Jack Yates still didn't pick up.
On the third attempt, Jack Yates, remembering meeting Ricky yesterday and worried it might be urgent, finally answered:
"Hello, Ethan went to the restroom..."
"Bad news, Ethan! Those bastards found the inpatient ward," Ricky shouted over the phone. "They're here to get you and your wife..."
