Upon seeing them, Ethan froze. Wasn't Fiona supposed to be sent for training? How was she still here?
He took a few steps forward.
At that moment, Margaret was holding the phone and shouting loudly:
"Ms. Jackson, I'm Fiona's mother, Margaret."
"Yes, yes, Fiona, the one who's coming in today for her induction."
"I'm so sorry, we were so excited yesterday celebrating, the whole family was busy, and we overslept."
Ethan was speechless. After all the effort to get an opportunity for Fiona, she overslept.
He regretted making that call.
"Don't worry though, Fiona is committed to joining Aurora Group. She won't let you down, you can rest easy."
Margaret, not seeing Ethan, spoke arrogantly while holding the phone:
"Yes, we're here in the lobby. Come down and meet us."
"No need for a big reception. Just a small gathering with a few mid-level managers is fine."
"Okay, okay, we'll be waiting."
Margaret ended the call smugly and turned to Fiona:
"Don't worry, it's just a three-hour delay, no big deal."
"You're a rare talent; they wouldn't dare turn you away. If you went to a competitor, Aurora would be in trouble."
"Ms. Jackson will be down soon."
The receptionist and security exchanged confused looks, as if wondering when the Brooks family had such relatives.
Fiona nodded slightly: "Once we meet Ms. Jackson, I'll ask her to raise my salary. Eight thousand is a bit low."
Margaret gave her a thumbs-up: "Just as I thought. With your potential, it's completely normal to ask for more."
Ethan shook his head, thinking about asking Emily to deal with Fiona.
However, seeing the Fish Intestine Sword on his wrist, Ethan hesitated for a moment.
Noticing someone shaking their head, Fiona instinctively turned her gaze toward Ethan, and her expression froze.
"Ethan?"
"Fiona, why are you bringing up that good-for-nothing?"
Margaret snapped impatiently, but when her gaze shifted to Ethan, her eyes widened in shock:
"Ethan?"
"Damn it, how did he follow us here?"
The next second, her face turned pale: "Bastard, he must be trying to latch onto us and get a job at Aurora Group through us."
"We shouldn't have mentioned yesterday that you got into Aurora Group."
"Fiona, stay here. I'll go get rid of this useless man."
Margaret stood up, walked over to Ethan, and shouted:
"Ethan, what are you doing here? Did your mother-in-law ask you to follow us?"
"I'll tell you, you're all so devious, trying to take advantage of Fiona's future."
She hated Linda deeply. When the Tang family needed help, they never helped, but when they saw her daughter had a bright future, they sent their son-in-law to latch on.
"Get out, get out, now!"
Margaret nearly yelled: "We won't help you find a job here."
Ethan didn't respond.
Fiona also stood up and raised her face proudly: "Ethan, didn't you hear? This isn't the place for you."
As she spoke, she reached out to push Ethan.
Fiona hated sharing good things with others.
Ethan calmly blocked her, unaffected. For him, some old events and insults had long faded, like clouds drifting by with a smile.
Seeing Ethan block her, Fiona was furious and shouted at the receptionist and security:
"Why haven't you thrown out this troublemaker yet?"
Ethan didn't even look at Margaret and Fiona. He walked up to the receptionist and calmly spoke:
"I'm looking for Emily."
The receptionist was taken aback: "You're looking for Ms. Brooks?"
Margaret scoffed: "Impressive, coming here looking for Ms. Brooks. Do you really think you're someone important?"
"We can't even see Ms. Brooks, and you, a useless man, think you can?"
Fiona laughed mockingly: "This is ridiculous."
At this moment, the receptionist also looked at Ethan with a smirk: "Sir, Ms. Brooks is not someone you can just meet. Do you have an appointment?"
"Tell Emily that I'm Ethan."
Ethan spoke coldly: "Give her five minutes. If she doesn't come down, I'll leave."
The receptionist laughed dismissively: "Sir, please stop causing trouble."
Several security guards stood nearby, eyeing Ethan.
Ethan calmly added: "Four minutes left..."
Fiona sneered: "Ordering Ms. Brooks to come down, who do you think you are?"
"Enough, Ethan, stop acting all important."
Margaret looked at Ethan with disdain, as if she had seen through him:
"I know you want to show off in front of us, but Ms. Brooks is not someone you can approach."
"Hurry up and leave, don't embarrass yourself."
"Moreover, if you leave a bad impression on Ms. Brooks, it might affect us!"
"If you ruin our big opportunity, what are you going to do about it?"
She was sure Ethan had followed them here and, when discovered, used his attempt to meet Emily to cover up his embarrassment.
Ethan looked at the receptionist and said flatly:
"Three minutes left..."
Sensing Ethan's powerful aura, the receptionist hesitated, then made a phone call.
"Ethan, enough. Is this fun? It's embarrassing."
Margaret was furious: "I'm ordering you to leave right now..."
Ding!
Before she could finish, a clear bell rang, the elevator doors opened, and the sound of footsteps echoed quickly.
Then, several men and women appeared. The one walking ahead was Emily, dressed in Givenchy, fashionable and professional.
However, her expression was urgent, almost frantic.
Margaret and Fiona greeted her with broad smiles:
"Ms. Brooks..."
Emily ignored their greetings and looked around the lobby anxiously, before locking eyes with Ethan and rushing over:
"Ethan, I'm so sorry I'm late..."
Margaret and Fiona were stunned.
Ethan really knew Emily?
How could that be?
Ethan smiled faintly at Emily: "Not bad. You've changed a lot. I thought you wouldn't come down."
Emily almost kicked Ethan but then turned to Fiona, smiling:
"Ethan, is this your sister-in-law, Fiona? The one you wanted me to arrange a job for?"
Margaret gasped again, completely shocked that Ethan had used his connections to get Fiona a job.
Fiona, not giving up, anxiously shouted: "Ms. Brooks, didn't you hire me because of my looks and abilities?"
Deep down, she didn't want to admit that it was Ethan's help.
The receptionist awkwardly looked at Fiona, wondering if she had misunderstood her own looks.
Ethan casually responded: "Emily, if she wants to rely on her abilities, give her the opportunity to do so."
After saying that, he walked straight into the elevator.
Emily was stunned for a moment, then turned to her secretary and smiled:
"Ms. Jackson, Fiona is young, beautiful, and upright. Just give her the opportunity according to the rules."
Ms. Jackson immediately stepped forward:
"Miss Fiona, Aurora Group only hires candidates with a master's or doctoral degree. You have a college diploma, so you don't meet our hiring requirements."
"I regret to inform you, you have not been accepted."
Margaret and Fiona's faces turned ashen in an instant...
