Chapter 41: The Uninvited Guests

Before Luna Bright could react, Ethan slipped into Sophia's car.
However, just a few kilometers down the road, Sophia pulled over.

She had just received a call from Luna.
Moments later, she ended the call, looking at Ethan in surprise.
"How did you manage to get the bank to fire Luna?" she asked.

Sophia hadn't seen the two additional checks Ethan presented.
Luna, basking in her arrogance, hadn't noticed the payees on those checks either.

Ethan casually replied, "Her attitude was unprofessional, and her performance was poor.
Getting fired was inevitable."

Sophia's face darkened. "Don't try to brush me off. Tell me the truth."

"I know Andrew Brooks of Aurora Group," Ethan said with a faint smile.
"Aurora Group is one of Oceanic Bank's largest clients, with billions in annual transactions.

"I told Frank Carter that if he didn't fire Luna, I'd have Aurora Group pull their funds and transfer them to Blossom Bank, a competitor."

He added honestly, "Carter was afraid of the consequences and fired Luna."

"You know Andrew Brooks?" Sophia scoffed. "And I've dined with Tiger Dalton."
"Even if you know Andrew, why would he go to bat for you against a bank?"

She gave him a knowing look. "Come clean—did you get Ms. Scarlet involved again?"

Ethan opened his mouth, hesitated, and then gave her a thumbs-up.
"You've seen right through me, my wife."

"Get lost!" Sophia snapped. "You're such a child, Ethan.
To pick a fight with Luna, you had to trouble Ms. Scarlet again.

"You need to learn when to stop."

She lectured him earnestly. "Even the greatest favor has its limits."

"Got it, I'll work on it..." Ethan said with a grin.
He playfully patted Sophia's thigh, letting his hand linger to feel the silk of her stockings.

Sophia glared at him. "And you promised me you wouldn't cash Victor Blacke's check!"

"I didn't want to cash it," Ethan explained.
"But my debts with loan sharks were snowballing, and I needed to pay them off quickly.
Otherwise, they might come after my mom."

Sophia's tone turned icy. "You could've asked me for the money."

"If I didn't know about your struggles, I might have," Ethan replied.
"But you're already short 50 million yourself. How could I burden you further?"

He sought to ease her concerns.
"Besides, I saved Victor's life. A million-dollar payment is reasonable."
"Once I clear my debts, the leftover money can be yours to use for your business."

Ethan promptly used the funds to pay off all his high-interest loans and credit debts.
Sophia, seeing the remaining funds, felt a pang of melancholy but chose not to scold him further.

"This money," she said softly, "keep it for yourself.
I'll handle my issues on my own.
After paying off the debts, buy your mom a house and set up some insurance for her."

She added, "But keep your distance from Victor Blacke.
It's best not to owe him too much."

Sophia hesitated, then offered, "I know someone who could lend me the 50 million I need.
The interest rate is even lower than the bank's. Should I introduce you?"

Ethan reached for the card in his pocket. "I have a friend who can help too—"

Sophia interrupted with a cold laugh. "Ms. Scarlet again?"
