So, because my obsession with the band Fall Out Boy has reached a scary new high, (and I mean almost ouat level scary) this is based on my favourite song by them, "The Kids Aren't Alright" which I strongly suggest you listen to.
"Stuck in the jet wash
Bad trip, I couldn't get off
And maybe I bit off more than I could chew
Overhead of the aqua blue"
After Neal, Emma never expected to fall in love again. She liked fending for herself, being independent. It wasn't until she came face to face with aqua blue eyes, dark hair and a devilishly handsome smile that she thought maybe, just maybe, romantic love was something she wouldn't mind having in her life again.
Though she would never admit it to anyone but him, she fell for him right then and there, with a knife pressed forcefully to his throat. She fell for his eyes and smile, his sarcastic banter, his caring soul, the slight mystery in his laugh... She fell for the good man she could see him becoming if he tried. She knew from that moment on that she was screwed. This mysteriously handsome man, it seemed, had gotten through a barrier that Emma very rarely let down. He'd done it right from the beginning.
"And with the black banners raised
As the crooked smiles fade
Former heroes who quit too late
And just wanna fill up the trophy case again"
Fast forward two years, the two of them, fighting evil together as a team, as two halves of a whole.
Killian was there for Emma when her parents revealed their secret about Maleficent. He supported her, cared for her, and was able to convince her that they were indeed still heroes. She forgave her parents because she trusted Killian with all her heart and more.
When Emma succumbed to the darkness, Killian was right there. He never stopped believing in her, he was the only one able to reason with her during that time, he was the one to bring her back.
Whenever there was a crisis Killian was there by her side, ready to help, ready to protect her.
Fast forward another ten years, after all the villains were defeated, after all problems were solved, Killian was there. He was there when Regina got sick, he was there when another villain attacked and sent Mary Margaret through the town on a cursed rampage. Their break from the hero stuff had only lasted ten years, apparently. And god, they were getting too old for this.
New problems began to arise, villains new and old seeking revenge for one reason or another. Throughout it all though, Killian stood at Emma's side.
"And in the end,
I'd do it all again,
I think you're my best friend"
But looking back on it thirty years after their meeting, remembering everything they'd gone through together, Emma wouldn't change it for the world.
When Emma met Killian, she had no one to call her friend. Mary Margaret, who had been the best friend she'd ever made, had just turned out to be her mother. Killian quickly became her best friend in Neverland. When they started dating, even more so. Emma found herself telling him everything, things she'd never share with anyone else.
Killian was Emma's best friend, her doting husband, the loving father of her twins, the love of her life, he was her other half.
"And I still feel that rush in my veins
It twists my head just a bit too thin
All those people in those old photographs I see are dead"
And when Emma is long past her 85th birthday, Killian already a memory because that damn pirate just couldn't stop with his scheming, even at 400, Emma could still feel his spirit there with her.
She felt him sitting there with her as Henry became a grandfather, watching his step son -who'd seen him as a father- proudly.
When she missed him, looking at old scrapbooks from their wedding, their honeymoon, family trips, she felt a burst of love fill her and she knew he was still there, right beside her, telling her it was okay and that he loved her even if she couldn't see him.
"I'm yours,
And when it rains it pours
Stay thirsty like before
Don't you know that the kids aren't all
The kids aren't alright"
Sitting in the room she used to share with Killian, looking through all those memories, tears were shed.
She missed him. It had been what? Five years now? Something like that. She missed him, yes, but she knew he was there somewhere.
When she finally, finally saw him again, dressed in white as bright as his smile, she crashed into him, their lips locking like not a day had passed.
Because when you have a love as true and pure as their's, as deep and powerful as this, nothing it only got stronger.
There was pain and suffering and all-out hell along the way, but it all lead to this moment, the beginning of their forever. And quite honestly, Emma wouldn't change a damn thing.
"And in the end,
I'd do it all again,"
