I haven't updated in so long. I'm still alive! This is really short and written in ten minutes on the bus to school this morning, but enjoy?
Emma knew going into work the day after she was finally free of the darkness wasn't the best idea. Her mental state wasn't great, she was exhausted, and she likely looked as bad as she felt, but she'd never been one to pity herself and she didn't plan on starting now.
She knew Killian thought she was insane when she got out of bed at seven in the morning after not being able to sleep for months, but she really didn't want to make a big deal out of everything.
"You're not bloody serious, right?" He'd groaned.
Emma had smiled in reply. She knew he would follow her so she threw a grey t-shirt in his direction as he complained some more, mumbling something along the lines of "Getting too old for this."
She'd been nervous about going into Granny's for breakfast. Gossip travelled quickly in Storybrooke, but she wasn't sure everyone knew what had happened around midnight that morning and she really didn't want to cause a scene or scare anyone.
She got a few looks from the dwarves, one from a very confused Granny, but Killian just shook his head at them and they said nothing more. Killian ordered breakfast to go and they headed to the station.
When Emma walked into the sheriff's station, David laughed and rolled his eyes.
"Go home," he said after hugging her, "Get some sleep. Seriously, I've got things under control," he promised.
Emma didn't plan on going anywhere and Killian must have known it because he chuckled and walked over to her desk, unpacking their food, handing David a coffee.
"I feel like I'm not doing anything. I've been terrorizing the town for almost a month now and now that I can help again, I'm not taking a day off to feel bad for myself," She'd said.
Killian and David shared an amused look.
"Can I expect you to have a shadow for a while, now?" David said, gesturing to Killian.
"Hey!" Killian frowned, "Dave, I've had next to no sleep in the past month, I've apparently had my heart crushed," he glanced at Emma who smiled down at her coffee, "I was woken up early this morning and I am not in the mood to be ridiculed for, maybe, following your daughter around like a lost puppy," he joked.
The three of them laughed and began to eat their breakfast.
For the first time since those six weeks of peace all that time ago, Emma was happy. She felt free, sitting here without worries, here with her father and her true love. Happiness felt foreign but it was certainly something she could get used to.
