As we pulled into her driveway, I began to understand Ryan's warning. I had read up about her online, since she made that interesting comment at the "Billionaire" release party. I found her net-worth, which was quite large, due to her father's successful career.
The house was tiny and the siding was crumbling. She had a Jeep that had to be from the 90's with dents and scratches all over it. The jeep was sitting under a carport with rotting posts. Even in the middle of the night, with little lighting, there were groups of dark figures huddled around the street corner. Her house was on that street corner. It was no place for a teenage girl, or anybody for that matter. I was afraid to step out of the car.
It was obvious that she was trying to get rid of me. I grabbed her guitar from the backseat and insisted on walking her inside.
I followed her into the house; she slowly unjammed the door. I felt uneasy because of the creepy guys standing twenty feet away from us. I immediately smelled mold at my first step into the house, feeling just as uneasy as I did outside. The house was extremely dated with yellow shag carpeting and wood paneling that was plastered with video game posters.
I handed her the guitar.
"Thanks Bruno," she said with a non-genuine smile.
I handed her the guitar.
"You're welcome."
She was so mysterious. What happened to her? There was so much I didn't know; I had so many questions. I read some websites that told me that Alice in Chains singer Layne Staley also had custody of her after her father committed suicide, which didn't make much sense to me. That had to be a lie. Kurt's family and her mother Courtney had to have been the ones taking care of her, not a drug addict who wasn't even related to her. Her face screamed Kurt Cobain's daughter, her eyes a bright blue color like his were. Why was she living here? Why was she alone? At this point, I'd just stopped mooching off my sister and I was already in my twenties. Lily was just a teenager and all alone.
I couldn't sleep and I felt like a complete asshole. I passed so much judgement on her when I shouldn't have. I painted a picture of a girl using nothing but lies from the internet, so I decided to try and get close to her, to discover the truth.
