51. Competition

In the morning, I tip toes into the bed chamber from En.

Seeing him still asleep, I hoped to place the cloths on the chair and leave.

"Morning babe"

"Holy hell...you startle me Chota." At least I thought it was him, the voice is about right, but the appearance, "What happened to you?"

"Oh nothing much, we had a quarrel En and I. Oh and then he turned me into a mushroom." Figures, he was almost covered in them, not able to move.

"Good morning, did you sleep well?" The feeling of the sorcerer in red, wrapping his arms around my waist, got me by surprise.

Chota giggled, "Like a princess"

"I wasn't talking to you!"

I got tense, as his lips kissed my cheek, "I hope you have forgotten the last night incident." I just nodded, but truthfully...those images never go away. We sat together at the breakfast table, enjoying the food in silence. At least until Chota joined us form where he sat, "May I join you love?"

"Go and die!" barked En, continuing to eat in peace.

He looked over to me once in a while, but we never got eye contact. I wouldn't dare to raise my head and make things worse. Thankfully we weren't alone for long, the rest of the family joined us soon after. Ebisu took the seat on my left, while Shin the one on the right. En already noticed that I left a seat open between us, but didn't see any reason to question it. Ebisu was still mad at me for hiring that dance teacher from hell. The women knew about that, since Chidaruma couldn't keep it to himself, another mean prank of him. The young girl just stole my food, while I just stared at an empty plate, "...my meal..."

Suddenly, Shin leaned towards me, "N/A, can I ask you for a favor?"

"Sure, what is it?"

"Ehm...well...could you...I mean...may I ...have one dance with you?" The man with the heart shaped mask wanted to make sure, that at least one dance turns out well for the devils. It doesn't matter who he chooses as a partner, as long as they danced once. I allowed it, knowing that he is got at that and doesn't have any feeling towards me. Shin was just interested to do his best. Noi was complaining during breakfast, at how many times she had to heal her feet from the lessons. Unlike Ebisu, she just used her glare as her weapon. Thankfully, otherwise I would be crushed under her strength.

Somehow, the atmosphere changed.

It was like a big happy family at the table. I didn't feel like a servant at that moment, more like a part of that family. Shin started conversation with me, talking about random stuff. Ebisu just stole one food after another from my plate whenever the staff refilled it. Noi and Fujita both complained about the ball to En, being all boring. The sorcerer in red hardly said anything, just stared at us all.

Shin suddenly noticed how my stomach began to grumble, "Why don't you eat something?"

"I would...but..." He had to watch the little girl take it away.

The man sighted, "Why don't you stop her?"

"It is my fault, if I haven't said so much to that devil, he would have never..."

TOCK!

I stopped talking, as a long hammer stuck onto the table, right where the girl reached out to my plate. Shin glared at Ebisu, "Do that one more time and you will have no hands to grab with"

Instantly, I felt a pain on my knee, "OW!" She didn't leave before her foot kicked me as payback.

"Shin..." interrupted En, pointing at the hammer, "...don't ruin my table."

In one go, the tool was back in his pocket, while a smile came to Shin's lips, "Dig in."

Once the breakfast was all over, the heart shaped man left with Noi the room. His partner got all curious, "Say; what is it with you and this servant?"

"N/A? Nothing, why do you ask?"

"You seem to enjoy her company that is not like you"

Shin nodded, "Indeed, but this is different."

"How so?"

"She reminds me of the time I lived in Hole. I guess the fact that she is human makes it easier for me to accept her."

Noi got a little loser to him, "So you are not into her?"

"Don't be ridiculous, I only love to fight...nothing else."

"You better be, otherwise you have my cousin on your neck" Noi already noticed the looks En gave us during our conversation, "He seem to get more 'attached' to his servant."

I don't know, can't tell" it was the truth; he didn't care of such things.

Back in En's chamber, he got dressed into his new outfit.

A red suit with a few accessories with mushroom designs on, I had to wear something similar: a silt dress with white lines going across the waist. Earrings and necklace were in gold, while rubies give it the extra charm. Only my scarf was entirely covered in mushrooms patterns. The details En meant were the jewelry, finding them a little too much, "Did Chidaruma has to go that far for those?"

"Why, I find them okay"

"Those rubies are directly sent from hell, it is surprising that he made those accessories by hand."

Who knew that devils are talented to make jewelry? Considering that they make clothes and masks for the sorcerers, that is even new to En. Covering my shoulders with the scarf, he leaned closer to my back, "Consider yourself lucky; not all servants get the honor to be invited to such a party, especially not humans." To complete my outfit, he placed the mask on me, "There...all done. I say we are ready to go." Almost out the door, he stopped, "I forgot, Chidaruma wants us to join on an event before the ball."

"Before the ball?"

En nodded, "This ball is only for high ranked sorcerers. For everyone below that can join too, but only if they are able to win their way in". Apparently that is how the devils chose their caterers for the event, the only opportunity for other sorcerers to join the occasion. Everyone is allowed to give it a try...even humans.
