59. Time to forget

En couldn't sleep that night. Kikurage was also restless, sniffing around to find me.

Bu he didn't seem to be the only one...as he got company.

"En?"

"Noi, can't sleep?" She shook her head. The thing that just happened at the ball won't get out of her head, "What are they doing to her?"

"You really want to know?"

For Noi was this mixture, between worry and curiosity. En reminded her of what she had to go through, becoming a devil herself. Her cousin assumed that this prize is for me to become a devil, but the man in red shook his head, "Not a devil."

"Then what else?"

"A rare type of sorcerer; bound by the devils for life. It is worse than death Noi"

She didn't find it so bad, "Cool, you mean like a really powerful sorcerer?"

En nodded, "Probably, even surpassing me. The price she has to pay though isn't worth the risk."

"What is there to pay?"

The man in red rose up three fingers, "Your devil exam was hard enough, but you had enough time to build up your strength. N/A only gets three days, surrounded by devils that won't hesitate to torture her till she dies."

"She dies?!"

"At least no human I known ever survived this before."

Noi finds it interesting, asking her cousin in case I make it though these three days. En simply said, "Marry her, what else?" Of course he would. His motive isn't love; it is more the fact that I would be more powerful than he is. I could ruin his business and everything he ever has managed to build up in his life. Also there is another reason, "Once we are married, we won't need the blue night to become partners anymore...we will be partners for life."

"A permanent contract?! You won't have the stress anymore on blue night, right?"

"Exactly, I am off the market forever" he actually like the thought of not going through this stress ever again, "I may use this special event to go on holiday with N/A."

Noi was a little irritated, "It is hard to tell, if you have any feelings for her or that you want to get away from your busy life once in a while."

"Both. Leaving her all alone would be too dangerous, who knows what she is capable of"

"Is it that bad?"

"If Chidaruma is involved, it will be."

Suddenly, the two heard people outside. They were talking about the sky. Noi got amazed, "Wow, the entire sky is dark red!"

"They started" added En, not feeling well, "leave me Noi."

"Okay, Sempai is probably outside watching this too." Unlike his cousin, the man in red didn't like this feeling. At a younger age, he considered this opportunity too. Greedy to be more powerful almost got him into the situation I am in now. Thankfully, the devil that supported Noi on her devil exam, told him exactly what he has to go through. Since then, he never wished for this ever again, appreciation his magic as powerful enough. He shuddered under the bed sheet, remembering what the devil said: If you listen carefully En, you can hear them scream...for three days and three nights and if it dies down before day three...they have failed.

My voice was ready to start to shouting.

Two devils dragged me into the house and to the bathroom. Haru took the task to clean my body of this ritual. She didn't react to my cries, that I begged her to help me. The devil just poured extreme hot water over my body, making me scream, "I can't help you anymore." Scared, I crawled into a corner, afraid of the brush in her hand. My skin was already burned; this would make it only worse. Haru didn't hesitate to force me out of that dark area, "Too many devils have broken the rules for you. You had your chance."

My entire body ached, I could hardly move without whimpering.

In a white shirt and blue pants, Haru guides me into the next room. Here, two other devils hanged me against the wall, chained on my wrists and ankles. Chidaruma acted all excited, jumping around like a manic, "I haven't done this for a long time, how exciting!" Most of the devils are new to this ritual, but everyone got a booklet on what to do. If I wasn't in so much pain, I would have laughed at how ridiculous it all looked. One of them was close enough for me to see the contents.

That devils use pictures and a step by step guide for a ritual, sounds like a bad joke. But the images are far from laughing matter, especially if I am supposed to be that drawn figure. Through another door, Asu and Risu appeared, holding up armor, a combination of a knight, like Noi used to wear and an iron lady. The chest was very important for this ritual, as I could see in the manual. Chidaruma welcomed them back, not asking where they been. Right now wasn't the time to investigate on comrades, thought Chidaruma, since he needed all devils for this ritual. It is also their first time for this ritual, receiving the same booklets to understand the procedure. Chidaruma explained a few things, while pointing at the areas on my body, "We only got three days for this ritual, and every day has a different step to develop this rare type of sorcerer." First his finger was directed at my legs, "First of: weakening the body..." next was my stomach, "...second: control the body..." last way at my head, "...and the third stage: transformation. Not many survived till stage three, but let's see what you are made off...Nr. six."
