52. Drastic change

Kaiman sees his chance at the competition. He went there with Fukuyama, just to have someone to support him mentally. The young sorcerer had given it a try before but failed horribly, "It can become very dangerous when you are not careful."

"Relax, I can handle anything"

Or so he thought his opponent were all sorcerers, what does he have to offer? Hardly any humans entered this place. Kaiman didn't feel so sure anymore, "Maybe not everything"

"You are not backing down now, are you?"

The lizard man snorted, "Of course not Fukuyama!"

The young sorcerer was suddenly irritated, "I didn't say anything"

"Then...who..."

The voice was close, "Behind you Kaiman."

They both turned around, seeing one of the devils before them. They were almost out of sight from the other competitors, so why would this devil even bother to come over? For Kaiman was this simple, "Hey you're that devil Nikaido knows...ehm...Esu...Usu..."

"Asu"

"That's what I said. What do you want?"

The devil ignored his arrogance, coming straight to the point, "You are here for that human girl, right? The only way to get her is to be a waiter for the ball." Kaiman felt unsure, seeing the jury. They all were devils, "Do I even have a chance, as a human?"

Asu shook his head, "You fail in the first round"

"How can you say that? I have even..."

"Every competitor has to show their faces first to enter; the En family will be part of the jury as well. N/A and a few more sorcerers will recognize you instantly" he didn't have to say what they will do to Kaiman when they find out; his lizard face is well known.

"Then how am I supposed to get in?"

The devil already had an idea, but Kaiman may not like it, "One of the devils will be able to help you with that, the thing is, are you willing to go that far?" The lizard man stared at Fukuyama; the sorcerer didn't know what to say. It was up to Kaiman to decide, "What's the plan?"

En and his family arrived soon after at the event.

It was uncomfortable at how the sorcerer in red held my shoulder while walking. The stares of the devils made this even worse, grinning like maniacs at the sight. Chidaruma however, was the only one to get up from his seat, "Welcome." Greeting the entire family first, before he stopped at me, grabbing my hand tenderly, "You sit next to me." That is how it ended, between two devils, Chidaruma and Gura Gura. Asu sat further way, but was still able to see me from the distance. Another devil joined him soon after. Asu noticed how worried he seem to be, "Did it work?"

"What do you think; he was acting like a big baby the whole time. It is all done though, now it is all up to him to convince the jury."

"And his girlfriend" added Asu, looking over.

"Will we get in trouble when Chidaruma finds out?" the devil was extremely worried over that part, but Asu assured him, that he got it all covered, "As devils, he will have a hard time to find us. All we have to do it to keep a low profile, only do what is necessary." The other devil followed Asu's gaze towards Chidaruma, who held my hand tenderly in his, "He is so full of himself."

"Don't worry, he gets what he deserves."

I didn't want to be here. The way the devil massaged the back of my hand was really disturbing. He didn't even stop as he got up, "Let the games begin!" As expected for a completion made by devils, it was a game to the death. It reminded me of a Coliseum fight, using smoke or weapons to take down the other, no rules. Even cheating was allowed, Chidaruma made that very clear to anyone. Under the competitors was no one I know. I breathed out relieved, glad to see that Kaiman didn't risk his life for such a stupid game to satisfy the devils. Everyone had to reveal their faces to the Jury bow down in respect and then, prepare to die. After the fifth round, I realized how brutal this battle really is.

The fifth candidate got impaled, where I expected it to be over with that but...

...I forgot that Devils need the extra bit of fun.

This man had to be splattered all over the arena, his organs separated and blood soaking into the sand. Decapitating his head was the main part of the fight, representing it to the Jury. The devil cheered like crazy, while my stomach was in need to be emptied. Chidaruma noticed how pale I got, "Need a bag?" He didn't forget anything. I f I complained about a headache, he had painkillers, hungry or thirsty, he shared his with me. Anything not to leave his sight that was the plan. All except one thing, "I need the toilet."

"I got a piss pot under the table"

Now he seriously is taking the piss, "I am not having a dump with you all around!"

"But you miss out the fun." I assure Chidaruma, that there was nothing to miss, it was always the same. Two men fight; one loses and gets butchered in front of the audience, same old crap. But the devil will have none of that, "Stop!" Everyone looked up to Chidaruma, "We take a break for five minutes!" No one, not even the other devils expected a break. He seriously did this, so I won't miss a thing. When he offered to accompany me to the toilets, I shook my head violently, "No thank you, I can do this..."

"I take her Chidaruma"

Asu offered himself. I looked from one devil to the other, both waited for my answer, "...okay..."

I didn't know Asu all too much, but knowing Chidaruma, I took my chance with him. The devil pulled me along till we were out of sight, "You are Nikaido's friend, right?" He waited outside ht door, to make sure that no one watches.

"How do you know?"

"We devils know, but ask any way to tease you. Listen, that lizard man is here"

"Kaiman?! But why?"

"He is here to rescue you"

I sighted deeply, "I don't need to be saved"

"No need to deny it, I know you care for him and so does he."

"Yeah..." I gritted my teeth, "...and die trying. Why can the listen and just go back to Hole?"

Asu chuckled, "It seems you two have a lot more in common than you realize." Done with my business, I asked him while washing my hands, "Tell me, can he win this fight?"

"I don't know, that depends on how good of a fighter he is."

Asu refused to tell m the outcome, seeing me getting worried, "You see"

Back in the arena, Chidaruma announced the tenth battle for the day. According to Gura Gura, there will be thirteen fights today, "We don't need that many waiters."

I think I need the toilet again.
