You let out a whine as you snuggled closer to Irene.

Her fingers gently brushed through your hair while soft shushes left her lips and she kept her warm arms wrapped around you.

"Is it going to stop soon?"

She picked her phone up and checked the hourly forecast to see if the storms were still going to go on for a few more hours.

She worried that if she told you the truth you'd find yourself feeling more anxious so she just pulled you a little closer.

"You don't have anything to worry about or be scared of, my love. I'm here for you. I've got you."

You buried your face in her neck and your eyelashes fluttering against her skin tickled her.

But she didn't say anything about it to you and just let you be, knowing that you needed the comfort and security she's giving you right now.

Her fingertips trailed along your back and when you jumped, a sharp gasp escaped your lips.

"Shhh."

Her nails dug ever so gently into your back and provided a comforting sensation.

"It's okay. Don't focus on the thunder. Just focus on me."

But that was easier said than done when you have such an intense fear of it.

It only got worse outside.

The storm just kept picking up, causing bad winds, frequent lightning, pouring rain, and thunder so powerful it shook the house.

It kept coming, each clap louder than the last and the sound was just so terrifying that you were gripping your girlfriend's shirt so tight, it tore.

"I'm sorry!" You said as you heard the rip of the sleeve.

"It's okay. I can get another."

You let out a slow, heavy breath against her neck and kept holding her.

"I'm just so scared. I hate thunder. Why does it have to be so loud and intense? It's so terrifying."

"I know."

It came again and you squeezed your eyes shut, trying to focus on the scent of her perfume

"Don't be scared. You don't need to be scared at all, baby. Because I'm here with you. The thunder is outside, it can't hurt you. We're inside, together. Safe and sound."

She laid a few kisses against your temple and you tried to focus on the warmth of her arms, the comfort of her body heat, the soothing scent of her shampoo lingering in her long dark hair, and the sweet kisses you just can't resist.

"You're safe."

It didn't show any sign of slowing down anytime soon.

And at first, that startled you.

But as the minutes passed and Irene just kept holding you close, you knew you were safe and you could relax for the first time in a long time despite the terror taking place outside.

Only she can ever make you feel that way.

"What would I ever do without you?"

She just chuckled and said,

"I wonder the same thing about you, my love. I don't know what I'd ever do without you. But neither of us has to wonder. Not when we're so madly in love."

You cracked a smile against her skin and let your tired eyes close, knowing that she was exactly right, as usual.
