Part 57: The Real You

In a time before everything went to hell, Son Wu and Kuzushi sat side by side in the dark, gazing down at a small fire.

"People lie to me... all the time..." Kuzushi sighed. "Whenever I think that for once, someone might do right by me, might fulfill a promise they've made to me, they let me down... again and again..." Kuzushi said. "I've been betrayed too many times to ever let someone get that close to me..." Kuzushi said.

"For me, the problem lies with myself." Wu sighed. "I... Hah... I always seem to find a way to let the people I care about down. Somehow, someway, I always end up hurting people. Either directly or as a product of my own failure." Wu said. "Failing and failing again... It's how life goes... and it's the way of a warrior. I can accept that, I can... I can pay that price with my body... but when people get hurt because of me, I just can't take it... It's too much..." Wu said.

"Well, rest assured, Wu, you don't have to worry about letting me down... Unlike the fools on this island, I have zero expectations for you..." Kuzushi smirked.

"You asshole..." Wu chuckled. "I guess I'll try not to betray you either..."

WHAM!!!

Wu slammed a fist across Scaramouche's face, busting open the crack that had already been put there. Scaramouche slammed through the wooden wall of the underground fortress' basement, punching into the rock of the underground so hard that the vibration damn near brought down the entire complex on top of them.

Scaramouche dislodged himself from the wall of rock, falling to his knees. He clutched at his face, trembling with pain and shock as he felt part of his left cheek and the lower left portion of his jaw crumble away.

"It's so odd..."

Scaramouche froze.

Before he could even notice, Son Wu was standing over him.

Scaramouche let out a pained cry as Wu's fingers clamped onto his cheek, hoisting him up.

"It feels like flesh, springy and lifelike... but with enough pressure, it shatters like porcelain..." Wu said. "Is it the same for Raiden?" He asked.

"D-Don't look down on me, you-"

In a flash, Wu let go of Scaramouche's cheek, his hand clamping around the back of his neck and-

KRAAAM!!!!!!!

Wu tore Scaramouche forward, slamming a knee into the center of his gut so hard that for a single moment, it warped the shape of Scaramouche's back.

"KUAAAAAAGH!!!"

Scaramouche screamed, his eyes going wide and his pupils shaking.

Wu didn't stop as Scaramouche's body shot upwards with the force of his blow, clamping one hand on Scaramouche's ribs, and the other on his side.

SLAAAM!!!!!!!!

Wu tore Scaramouche's body downwards, slamming his knee into Scaramouche's side and bending his body across his knee.

"AAAAAAAAAGH!!!"

Wu only relented when he heard something snap, spinning and roaring out as he threw Scaramouche with full force, sending his rag dolled body tumbling through the air until it slammed into the opposite wall.

"You know, Kuzushi..." Wu said with a low chuckle. "The funny thing is, you're technically, like, an android..." Wu said. "My kind has a history fighting robots and robotish things, it was a running gimmick in the villains that would show from time to time..." Wu said. "Guess you could say this is another notch in history... another one to stomp out into oblivion..." Wu said, the tired look returning to his eyes as he trudged towards Scaramouche laid.
