Son Wu stood atop the grassy green hill where the Asase Shrine laid, gazing out towards the Inazuman mainland. The wind ruffled his hair and his ki, and his tail flapped in the wind. He was quiet, tranquil, calm.
Yae Miko stepped slowly up from behind him, standing by his side to gaze out in the same direction as him.
It had been a week since they had arrived here. A week of calm introspection. Of recovery and peace. A week to really think about his place in this world... in any world.
"Do you think you're better now...?" Miko asked.
...
...
...
"Mehhh..." Wu shrugged. "Certainly better than I was..." Wu said. "I've had a lot of time to think, and well..." Wu sighed.
"I think I know who I wanna be in this world... I think I know my ambition."
"Oh...? Do tell, Wu..." Miko said.
...
"For the longest time, I've been chasing something." Wu said. "Strength. Power. Pride. A legend. Defeating Vegeta. Going home. Revenge, and retribution..." Wu said. "Wandering both earth and Teyvat constantly..." Wu sighed. "In all that time, I never once bothered to sit down and really live." Wu said.
"I'm strong. I am. But what did it cost me? In all my time chasing power, I forgot to live my life, to enjoy it, and to enjoy others." Wu said. "I savored moments here and there, made a few friends, but I sacrificed so much time on myself..."
...
"I know that deep down, I will always be a flawed man. A man who craves power, and wants the world to know that he was here, that he is something to be remembered... In my heart of hearts, I will always fight for myself..."
"But people... mortals... are weak. Unbearably meager... No matter how much I wish they would all roar against their fate, and fight for their ambitions, there are those unable to see their dreams come to fruition... Either born too weak, or made too weak by the stresses and tests this world has to offer... They cannot all endure what the gods... what the world demands of them... Someone has to come to the defense of those little lives... To take the burden that they have so long carried off of their shoulders... Someone has to do it..."
"And well, maybe I can put this selfish strength of mine into defending them... Maybe one day... I can teach them how to be strong... through instruction, or by example..."
Wu gazed down at his fist, and clenched it hard, a golden light shimmering around it.
"If I don't do it... then who will...?"
...
"I think you've done it, Wu..." Miko smiled. "You've found a will that can carry you against Ei." Miko said. "But are you able to call upon the strength necessary to do so?" She asked.
"Hmph..." Wu took a neutral stance, and Miko stepped back.
FWSHHHH!!!
In a flash of gold, Wu's aura burst into the visage of the mighty Super Saiyan, his ki surging and his hair standing on end. But there was something different to it. The flow was far less turbulent, the glow a duller, paler shine. Instead of spiking into sharp ends, it flowed nearly as softly as it did in base.
"What is this...?" Miko asked.
"I think I read about it once... It's not exactly the state I learned of, per se... Instead of mastery coming from repeated use and training... the Super Saiyan power has been honed by my mental state... I suppose there is strength that comes with a tranquil heart..." Wu said calmly, letting out a low breath as he returned to base.
