Son Wu awoke in the same spot he had been laid. The back of his head ached like one of the million or so times when he had taken a particularly powerful blow. He had remembered an outing with Lumine, a short stint across the nations to come in his journey, but the ending of this outing was now lost to him by means he didn't understand.
There was something in his heart. A cold dread. An unfelt feeling of something that his soul knew, but his mind could not or would not acknowledge.
...
Perhaps it could be looked into later.
Son Wu went on to find that he wasn't the only one who had a rough run-in with Lumine. The Abyss Princess had intercepted Aether and Dainsleif on their quest in the pursuit of an Abyss Herald.
----------
Son Wu and Aether reconvened in Liyue, walking through its streets, their steps slow an weary after what had occured.
"I have already traveled through this world once. Once you reach the end of your journey as I did, you will see for yourself the true nature of this world."
Aether repeated the words that Lumine had told him as she departed, a solemn look on her face.
...
"Wu, where were you while we faced the Abyss Herald? Couldn't you sense our energies?" Aether asked.
"...I was on date with Lumine."
...
...
...
"What...?" Aether slowly turned to Wu, his voice laced with malice.
"WAITWAITWAITWAITWAIT!!!" Wu waved his hands in a panic. "She teleported me away to talk to me! She took me on a tour of the other nations, which would have put me far enough not to sense your fight with the Abyss thing...! She... She talked to me like she knew me. I... I don't understand it completely, or remember the end of our interaction, but I think she wants me to join her..." Wu said. All I remember about the end of our conversation... She said something similar... finish the journey, and reclaim your strength..." Wu murmered.
"So she would rather talk to you than me...?" Aether asked rhetorically, the pain in his voice audible.
"That's what I was thinking!" Wu concurred. "...Look, nothing's changed. We know what we have to do, and where we have to go. To get what we want... for me to go home and for you to reach Lumine, we need to visit every nation and complete our journey..." Wu said.
"What about what she said...? The truth of this world...?" Aether asked. "There's so much more than meets the eye about Teyvat... What did she mean...? Just what is waiting for us out there...?" Aether asked.
"...I'll be ready to face whatever comes next. It's up to you to be the same." Wu said, placing his fingers on his head. "I'll be back later, try to look into ways to get to Inazuma..."
...
"Or worse comes to worst, I can fly us there, or something..."
Blink!
----------
Blink!
Son Wu sighed, reappearing atop the grand plateau that was Cloud Retainer's abode.
"Son..."
Wu felt his spirits lift ever so slightly as Shenhe appeared at his side in a flicker of movement.
"Yo." Wu said, a smile slowly glancing over his otherwise tired looking features.
"How was your trip to Mondstadt? Did your young student make it back in good condition?" Shenhe asked.
