"So you're telling me you took down Dvalin all by yourself!?" Bennett asked, his eyes sparkling.
He sat across from Wu at a table at Good Hunter as the partial-Saiyan tore into a sticky honey roast. It had been a day since the defeat of Dvalin.
"That is what I said, yes..." Wu muttered, lapping up the oily, sticky and sweet mixture of glaze and rendered fat from his fingers.
While others were celebrating the disappearance of Dvalin or recovering from a Hilichurl attack that had taken place concurrently with the fight with Dvalin, Wu simply elected to rest, and finally enjoy a hearty meal.
"Acting Grand Master Jean said it was a team effort, though! You should be pardoned, and have, like, a statue built in your honor or something!" Bennett chirped.
"It's better this way." Wu said. "It was a team effort. If the others hadn't banded together to calm me down, I would have killed Dvalin. Hell, I might've lost it further and done something completely unforgivable..." Wu said, making Bennet's smile falter.
"But... You still did good. You helped us all, no matter how bumpy the actual journey was. Shouldn't you be recognized for that...?" Bennet asked.
"...I of course have a desire to prove myself to others, but not even I can stomach being lorded around by the people. What matters most is what I can prove to myself, and this encounter has proven two things: that I can and will reclaim the power lost to me, and climb even further. But that I also lack the control and discipline to properly utilize it, and I'll need to train harder than I ever have before if I want to be anything more than I am now." Wu said.
"...You're normally really crude. But sometimes, you talk like a genius, Mr. Wu..." Bennet complimented.
"Thank you..." Wu said timidly, taking another messy bite of the honey roast.
"While others celebrate, the Dishonorary Knight enjoys a meal with his student..."
Bennet flinched, and Wu seemed to deflate slightly as a taller figure brought a chair to their table.
"One could argue that a meal is a celebration of its own..." Wu said.
"Calvary Captain Kaeya..." Bennet muttered. "H-How are you?" He asked.
"Better." Kaeya said with a casual smile. In addition from his normal attire, he donned a black sleeve that completely covered his right arm and hand, hiding the messy scars underneath. However, he elected to leave his face uncovered barring his eyepatch, revealing a messily textured scar that clung to the outer rim of his right cheek.
"..." Wu was silent, met once again by a reminder of his failures.
"Why so grim, friend? Or are you so guilty over hurting little old me?" Kaeya teased with a smirk.
"Did you suffer any permanent damage to your functions?" Wu asked.
"My arm still hurts quite a bit, but it's healing. And of course, my handsome face will be forever marred by the scars of your fiery wrath..." Kaeya said. "But no matter. It's simply a more noticeable tally to the burn scars I've accumulated..." Kaeya said, chuckling.
"...You all seem so eager to forgive me." Wu said.
"It's better we keep you in a good mood, no? Besides, you're far from a bad person." Kaeya said.
"...Regardless, I apologize." Wu said.
"And you are forgiven." Kaeya said. "In fact, I'd like to thank you."
"Thank me?" Wu asked.
"Of course. I believe you've help mend a rift between I and someone dear to me when you nearly killed me." Kaeya said. "While I was in and out of it for a long while, I could recognize the warmth of his Pyro as he stewed with resentment at my bedside..."
